Comparing garmin GPS @ Walmart. Com & amazon.
Walmart has a refurbished 50LM 5" for 87.98.
They do allow you to purchase a warranty.,which I don'tike to do

Anyone have experience
W/ their refurbished items? Got 3 good reviews (little usage
Before post) and one bad / just didn't work.

Would it be same luck of draw new or is it the refurbished
Part?

Amazon has garmin nuvi 50 L M 5" (assume last yr model)
For 127.99.

Does anyone know difference btwn lifetime map &
Base. A friend said her base updates itself.

Thanks.

Lifetime is included in the price of the GPS and Base you pay seperatly. BTW Lifetime is not your life, its the units technology being able to take the updates which is usually at most three years. It can be extended slighlt further by getting a larger capacity SD card. But then it gets limited by the processor inside of the GPS. As to the refurb question I prefer not too (you never know exactly what the previous owner did to it) buy them. Units are labelled as refurb usually because they were opened, used and returned to stores. The stores can't resell them as new and don't want to deal the margin loss so the send them back to the vendor. The vendor checks it as much as feasable, repacks it and gives it a 30-90 day warranty.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi refurb 1490LMT back in summer 2012, from WalMart. No problems with it but did have to get the micro SD card to be able to update to latest maps. I didn't buy the warranty. $119 or so plus tax. I thought it was a decent deal compared to paying $50 every time I wanted to update a map on the Magellan that I borrowed from my parents.
