Hi everyone. After a week of running around, talking
To garmin, apple & Toyota parts, made my selection.

Had to buy a cupholder like extension to bring
Cigarettes lighter port out & away from shift. Car
In park hit garmin & iPhone charging cords.
Best solution @ auto zone. Corolla only has that one
Source for energy.

Drove around w/successfully updated maps w/nuvi
2555lmt. I decided I didn't need the traffic
Feature or have to have routes for my lifestyle.

There was a $50.00 difference, so I downgraded
To the nuvi 50lm.

Problem now is that something is up w/the nuvi.
It installed & updated fine. Regardless of GPS
Simulator on or off, this unit doesn't remember
My recents once it powers down. Not does it
Seem to recognize my current location.

Did errands today w/ it & was routing me to last
Destination instead of new programmed "go to".
Tool it off freeway & uturn to get a 3 turn
Destination (forced it). Routed me on the freeway
Anyway & seemed to go "via" my last destination.
I didn't see the via function so I don't think
It's my error.

Programmed doctors offices in (though dont know
If it takes suite #s). It powered down
Outside of the car while in GPS somulator
& looks like they are lost.
Not in favorites or recents.

Garmin is, of course, closed for a 3day weekend.
Called fri am.

It seems like it first saved every route to favorites&
Now they are gone. Pretty sure settings right,
As I learned a lot last week w/nuvi 2555. Know they
Are different but how much for basic where to and where
Am I now.

Do you think I got a Lemmon or am I overlooking
A setting?

I recommend registering with the Garmin forums and ask for help there.

https://forums.garmin.com/forumdispl...Garmin-Connect

You might do a search and see if anyone else on that forum has had similar problems before you post.

This doesn't sound right. If it's really using GPS (not in simulator mode), it should be remembering what you enter for destinations.

No, it won't until it manages to sync with the satellites. Until then it will assume you are whereever you were when you last turned it off.

It may or may not be your error. You can enter a new destination as a "via" or as a replacement destination. It's an easy thing to do 'wrong'. And if you have an existing destination, the GPS will keep trying to send you there until you either replace it or remove it (on my older Nuvi that's the 'stop sign' on the starting page that lets you enter a destination).

If you remove it from a power source, it will warn you of that and will offer to power down unless you choose to keep it 'on' - could that be why it powered down? I don't know whether it saves anything if it's in "GPS simulator" - I suspect not since it only really knows where things are located if it's actually using GPS.

Maybe you got a lemon. Make sure your GPS has actually synced with satellites, which can take a few minutes if it's cloudy or if there are buildings blocking satellite access (make sure it's not in "simulator" mode) and experiment more to find out whether you still see these sorts of glitches.

If you replace it from where you bought it, you may get another lemon if there's an entire batch of them. So you may be better off contacting Garmin directly.

Thankyou, oddstray, for evaluating these issues. There were so many of them that I exchanged it @ my local best buy.
This is why I didn't get it online.

Tek Freek also gave me the Garmin forum link which was very helpful. From there they provided a link to only nuvi products.

They seem to know more than the Garmin reps on that forum. Called Garmin to download maps & whole thing worked better
when they locked my unit to their software. Uploaded from there & new one is fine.
