We're going to be buying a fridge, washer/dryer, TV, from BB. They are going to try and sell us extended warranties on these products which I assume are serviced by a 3rd party service company and BB just takes a cut of the revenue for selling the extended wrnty.

I'm not sure if I should buy it from BB or go online and see if I can get better pricing someplace else?

Anyone have an opinion?
Thanks

Personally I wouldn't get the extended warranty from BB for any of those items.
If they are going to fail it is going to be in the first year when it is under the real warranty.

Completely agree, maybe if you have kids or animals that may knock the TV over you could get one for the TV (as long as it is a no-questions-asked warranty like the one we got on my lady's camera) but the other stuff will either work for years or fail pretty quickly.

For appliances, go with Squaretrade. I disagree that appliances with motors and compressors will fail within the first year. They're unpredictable. For the TV, you'd have to price it out if it's worth it to you. Buy it with AMEX to double your warranty. I'd still go with squaretrade of BB extended warranty if I were to purchase one for a TV (which traditionally, I wouldn't).

For me, the way I make a decision if I'll buy a warranty depends on the price of the warranty and the price of the item I just bought. I bought a $600 receiver for my home theater system and it cost an additional $20 so I bought it. I bought a TV for $1,200 and they wanted $300 for add'l warranty, I told them to go to hell. From most of the research that I have read, they say that warranties are a waste of money.

Unless your area has numerous black/brownouts, I'd skip the warranty on the fridge. As to the W/D it depends on how often you will be using it. If it will be near daily and the W is a frontloader then get it. As to the TV, I'd look to see if a replacement plan is available. IMO I'd buy the warranty from the store that sells it for the reason that it the 3rd party vendor can't repair it, then its replaced with a comparable item (based on specs and not cost) by the store (installation/delivery not included). At which time the warranty is ended, but you can buy another warranty on the replacement unit.
