Try going to the Set-up menu. Find the Speakers setting and set it to "Off".

That's not the same problem. Start a new thread instead reviving this dead one.

Actually my problem remains, but hardly as often as before. I'd say maybe once a month or so. I can cure it by simply changing the channel and listening for sound on another channel, then go back to my first channel and all is well. Weird 'eh.

^^^ that sounds like a problem with your cable box, not the TV. Call the cable company and see if they can come out and diagnose it and maybe give you a new box.

We had the same problem on our 46 inch Sony "Z" series. It started before the set was a year old. There is some sort of upgrade available from the Sony website, but I never got to it.
My solution was to put the Dish Network receiver into pause mode for a second, then back, or rewind the last 5 seconds, or touch the volume up or down. It only happened once or twice a day, so we became used to it.
Much later the picture became considerably dimmer and we sold it. We had nothing but Sony's in the last 25 years and unfortunately they are not my favorite brand now.

I really am not complaining about my Sony(s); have two of them same larger size but one is an odd duck. It happens so infrequently now that I pretty much forget about it. I also have two 19" Vizio tvs that I picked up at WalMart for about $125 each. They run like a charm and the smaller screens give a great picture. One for the kitchen and one for the sewing room. (TV's R Us over here).

Default Same problem - same tv. No volume on tv now.

Hi I was reading these posts and see a similar story with my problem. We have the same tv Sony Bravia and it's about 3-4 years old and we just lost all sound. I tried your suggestions. The headphones when plugged in give off no sound. But the DVD player when turned on and set to aux will give us sound. Any ideas?? We also have an external box

Default Still Need Help, Please

I have a Sony Bravvia TV model # KDL-40VE5 that minimal sound is coming from the speakers even when they are turned up high. I read a few things to check online and plugged in a set of computer speakers and a set of computer headphones with no sound coming through them. What should I do? Thanks a Million!
