Google has released a new chromecast app, chromecast video, and chromecast audio. As I understand it, the audio is the real innovation in price, as existing devices cost up to 10X the price of Chromecast audio ($35). The Video update puts Chromecast more in line with Amazon Fire and other devices, but pricewise it is still the leader.

I am unable to figure out if the new app works with the old Chromecast. I would presume yes, but the more advanced functions require the new hardware.
