I have a very very expensive Panamax that I bought about 14 years ago, it still functions fine, has lots of room for additional equipment, and I have never had one problem since owning it, even when lightening struck something around our house. It was expensive back then, but I'd follow advice from the others here.

WOW! THank you! I too recentely bought a 1080 LCD 54" flat screen TV. I bought it at best buy and the sales girl was extremely helpful and and seemed to really know what she was talking about.. At the end she too offered the surge protector and a much needed item. It was 159 with a discount I paid 135. She said not only does it save your TV from a power outage, but it helps with keeping the lines clean because we have dirty energy coming through the walls. She also said that it will give us a better picture and improve our soud! Is there any truth too that? WE live In Carlsbad Ca and dont have too many stroms to really worry about, so does it really give you a better picture and sound? I would appreciate any feedback. If I dont need it I would like to take it back!!!!Thank you in advance Kathleen

So, if I want to set up protection for the entire house -- before the wiring gets to the box in fact -- then I'd need a monster? I like the idea that there's a phone and cable hook up, too, but I don't know where that stuff comes in. Might have to reroute stuff.

or people that resurrect 2.5 year old posts solely to ridicule others.

Well, I was looking up some stuff on the internet about surge protectors. Was hoping that others that stumbled upon this wouldn't be deceived into paying an absurd amount for certain brands because of someone telling them it will give them a better television picture. It's dishonest, and would lead people to waste a substantial amount of money.

Whole house protection is best, IMO. It would go behind the electrical panel. We currently have surge protection for all computers and TVs but that will change.
