I was a big proponent for SlingTV, since it offered ESPN and a handful of other cable channels for a pretty low price per month. However, I canceled it this week after having an issue of being able to watch ESPN for Monday Night Football. Two minutes before the game, the stream for ESPN gets cut off and an error message and black screen appear. The error message read something like "error 8-259". I couldn't find this error online at the time. I thought, maybe it was the Roku stick. I tried using my iPad and then my Macbook Pro for Sling, but I could not get ESPN to work on either of those two devices. However, all other streaming channels worked just fine.
I've heard from others who use Sling that they have had the exact same issue every time they want to watch ESPN for a big game. One guy told me that every Monday Night, ESPN goes out and he is not able to watch Monday night football. I never paid attention to this until it was my turn to watch a big game, and suddenly the channel is not accessible.
So, after much frustration, I canceled the service. Has anybody else here had the same or similar issues with SlingTV? I hate that I'm losing ESPN, as really, that was the biggest reason for me getting Sling TV, but I'll manage. I'm thinking Dish will wind up pulling the plug on this service because it's so unreliable. Or, my conspiracy theorist in me says it's merely a bait and switch thing that Dish is doing to get cord cutters hooked on having things like ESPN, and when the channel doesn't work, they'll get fed up and just go out and get satellite service. (Maybe not, but you never know?)

The faster Hulu and Netflix can add ESPN and other sports content I can only imagine how many people will be canceling their cable subscriptions. SlingTv was a real consideration.

No, it's not tied with WatchESPN unfortunately. If I could ever figure how to get into my in-law's TWC account, I could probably watch it that way. They don't mind me using the account, but they can't figure out what the password is, lol!
I doubt you'll see live ESPN content on Hulu or Netflix, especially anytime soon. I don't really see why the NFL can't just allow everybody access to live NFL games (not repeats) for a small price, even if you can only watch it online.
Skins guy... Is it a licensing issue? You can't even listen to an NFL radio broadcast on the Internet. Why would you be able to watch it via the web even if it's through ESPN?

It's SlingTV which is through Dish Network. It's a $20/month service that provides access to about 23 cable channels, with ESPN and ESPN 2 included.

I've watched an NFL game last year over the internet on my laptop through my Comcast account. Pretty sure it was ESPN too.

If it's that important there might be a workaround for this. If these companies are going to continue too chop up the exclusivity rights they are going to **** off a lot of people.

The difference is you have a valid Comcast Cable TV account already. The internet services are an extension of what exists for you already.
I assume the Sling TV to be a broadband only type of account - especially at its low cost. Apples and oranges here...
One disappointment, though, is that I couldn't stream the Pro Bowl on ESPN to my phone -- viewing was restricted to TV sets and computers.
I guess that's where Verizon's exclusivity deal comes into play - with mobile phone use only.
