If you put all these tablets in someones hand with the latest version of Android, what makes one stand out over the next if you were to get the same CPU, memory, screen resolution etc.

I know there is the budget crowd and they usually will take a $50-100 tablet with a older version of Android, lower resolution screen, less memory, less ports and cheaper feel, but when you get to good to great specs (HD screen, 16-32GB Memory, Camera) in the $2-400 range, what makes you choose one brand over another?

For me I prefer Samsung or LG tablets because they are the only 2 that have the split screen feature built into their OS, but Samsung's are usually over priced, so I might lean towards LG. But if you take that split screen feature away from those 2 models, they are pretty much the same as the rest of the bunch like Sony. Lenovo or HP.
I also prefer a USB ports (full size preferably) on tablets and a micro HDMI port, which is hard to find at times, but can push me to one brand over the next.

i only buy nexuses because they are unlockable and can install stuff like aosp/cyanogenmod without having to wait (weeks/months/years) for an exploit.

The wife and I use Samsung phones, so their tablets seem to be the easiest to use. Also I have found that the cheaper tablets are not as user friendly as those Samsung tablets that cost in the area of $200. The Tab A is great IMHO.
