That's the way I see them, especially since not all modern digital recorders come with tuners.
The thing is, would that actually work for the airwaves, having to pull it through a converter?
For cable, hypothetically speaking (since I don't watch cable any more), it might....on those channels that don't require the cable company's own converter box.
Mind you, this is last use estimation since at the current time, I'm not recording anything off TV except the Rose Parade on the TIVO. If, however, there was some reason to have a tuner for the airwaves, would an old VCR and analog to digital converter hooked up together, work?
As far as that other region of keeping old electronics around, for parts, it is really not viable at the consumer level.
