I have been doing some online research for an after-market double din head unit for a hobby car- GS300/2002 that should have blue tooth and USB capabilities. But it is difficult to see which ones have a good playlist tree. I will be using primarily my external USB for music and I want to have a good size view where I can see multiple folders. I have done YouTube searches but nobody really gets involved with the USB playlist tree. My stock radio in my other car has a great view. I am looking to spend around $150-$200. I have been looking at JVC, Pioneer, and Sony.
Edit: I am not limited to the above price and brands if I need to go higher.
I'd like to use playlists from USB but I have not found any car stereo that can handle them. I looked about 5-6 years ago, and again in 2013. For USB storage devices you are stuck with folders and the limitation of the stereo to handle the folders and files.
I have some points on a credit card I could use now for a free stereo. Ive looked online at the newest models, read the manuals, checked out a few DVD players in the 200-300 dollar range hoping for more functionality - there is no mention of USB playlists.
My feeling is, most people will use an Ipod or Iphone for advance music sorting thru playlists, genres, etc, so there is little to no incentive for a stereo manufacturer to develop USB playlist functionality.
