Anyone redo old Vandersteen Model 2s? Mine are from 1977 and after removing the grill cloth sock the bass drivers foam has totally deteriorated. Are they worth rebuilding?

don't know your brand/model, but I do know that in the past, you could get kits to refurbish most high quality speakers. Why not contact the mfgr? or, shockingly, google?

You could also try contacting Parts Express. I used them to replace a 12" duel voice coil subwoofer from my M&K Goliath I.

Thanks, ended up talking with Vandersteen and sent in the driver's to be refurbished. Really quick turn around. Put the drivers back in and the speakers sound like I remember them sounding 40 years ago.
Thanks for the responses.

They-the modern ones- don't really don't sound too different today. Vandersteen is well known for its good service and sound.

Seems to me that the age of innovation in speakers was a generation ago. Companies like AR (remember the AR3?), Heil, early electrostatic companies, Bose and such were all active then, and more mass market than the specialty producers these days.

Oh yes, AR was an amazing paradigm of customer service. Years ago my cousin shipped her ~10-year-old model 6s to them and they rebuilt them @ no charge. I was proud as a peacock that I had originally recommended them c.1970.
