They don't make one that small. Find a used SB12 NSD or SB1000 for around $400.

One of the best solution for the best bang for the buck is DIY or finding someone local who customized boxes for subwoofers. In my area, I have several people on craigslist who custom build subwoofer boxes. Do researches on DIY subwoofers and find the best subwoofer driver you can afford. Next, buy an amp and you got one bad ass subwoofer. Won't be as pretty as a store bought subwoofer but it's definitely bang for the buck.

Let's see.......who to trust to design a proper subwoofer enclosure........an acoustical engineer with a masters degree or even a doctorate at a respected speaker company, or a guy I found on craigslist.

I would trust the acoustical engineer.

There are plenty of proven designs you can find in the DIY subwoofer forum across the internet. It's not like we are building a rocket ship to Pluto.

Search for a used one. SVS or HSU

When it comes to audio speakers, I'll stick with the older high end equipment.
