The Playstation 3 models that were released before 2007 have Super Audio playback functions.

This link will give you the model numbers to search for if you're trying to find one that has the playback for SACD: PS3SACD.com PlayStation3 Super Audio CD FAQ

You can use your PC and playback software called foobar

http://www.foobar2000.org/

using this plug in

https://sourceforge.net/projects/sacddecoder/

You do need a pretty fast PC to decode it.

Google for more info.

AFAIK a regular CD player will not play SACD. It's completely different type of disc, it would be like trying to play a DVD in CD only player.

It's possible to rip SACD discs with a modified PS3, but you can't with a DVD or Blu-ray drive. When you rip with a PS3 you can generate an ISO, then copy it to a thumbdrive and extract the ISO to DSF or DFF files on your PC. These DSF or DFF files can be played with Foobar2000 (and the SACD plugin) or JRiver Media Center which I mentioned in my previous post.

I haven't done it myself but have often read that you can rip them as analog into wav files though the audio out. This is only the CD (redbook) layer which defeats the purpose of having all the "super audio" (DSD layer) data. You can do it as you would any other CD.

Oppo.

They play sacd and a whole lot more, from the old non-hdmi 971s to the hdmi 981s to the solid 980s to the blu ray 83s and the 93s and the state of the art torroidal transformer 95s to the wifi 3d103s and their best, the 105s.

A brand new 103 straight from oppo is 500 bucks, add a hundred cor the darbee edition, and a new 105 with the better dac and torroidal transformer is about 1200.

But a used 981 can be had for under 50 to 100 with remote and a nice 83 for a couple hundred.
