Vizio was just nailed for using this technology to collect user data and then selling it to marketers.

About the only way I trust to disable the spying is to not provide internet access to them, which is what I do to the one smart TV I have (a 22" in the bedroom), no smart TV's for me.

My parents are away until May sometime...... I have both of those flat screens UNPLUGGED so nothing in the house can be heard and sent anywhere!!

Just unplug them from the 'net if they are wired ethernet. If they are wireless, go into the tv menu and turn it off. All you lose is smart features, nothing can be sent out if it isn't on the 'net.

Not related to the discussion, but you should have your browser set to block 3rd party cookies.
