Anything that's similar to iPod Classic 120 & 160 gb? I know they discontinued iPod Classic a few years ago and they never said anything until afterwards (aka after they pulled all the ipods from the shelf), so if they told us beforehand, then of course I would've bought another one. But oh well, that's life. Now I need an alternative.
Also, I don't care if the mp3 player has expandable memory to add SD card. I don't mind buying an SD card to add more music onto.
Judging from this page at Amazon, it's not hard to end up paying north of $300 for that much capacity in a player. That Fiio X1 that supports a 128GB SD card looks like the best value at $79.
The good news is that most of the players at that price point support lossless audio formats that Apple didn't support, so your music has the potential to sound very good.

Had a time, getting it to work. Later, thought it would work easily
on MacAir, my internet machine of choice, but results with iTunes
have been still kind of spotty. I will say, I finally did get it to work,
but never quite the same.
In the midst of all this warfare, though, I found the SONY Walkman at
Best Buy for under $45. It works very well on my media machine, which
is a WIN7, never goes on line, and is, admittedly, pretty high end on the
home user power and storage scale. Still, I am guessing the Walkman
will work on just about any machine. You'd have to check. It's smaller,
has a easy to read file and folder system, generic Windows look. I bought
two, because I use them for music practice. Noticed also at Best Buy there
are a few other choices.

Hmmmm maybe I can try Best Buy then to see if they still have something I could use. Hopefully there's something I am looking for. If not, will see the closest thing they have and think about it.
The ones I saw on ebay and Amazon were a lot of money ($300-400) unless I just didnt see the ones where it was lower like $200 and less. I can always re-look to see if I missed something.

Not trying to steer you away or anything - but is there a feature you're looking for that your smartphone can't do? I have three ipods (Classic, nano, and shuffle) - and all are just collecting dust as it's simply more convenient to use the phone...
