Because of Facebook Live, those are the only choices? Roku supports the broadest number of streaming services by far, but they don't currently include Facebook Live.

I prefer Apple TV mainly because of how it also integrates with my iTunes library. I will be much happier with Apple TV once Amazon releases their Amazon Video app. Currently, I have to use my phone and mirror it through Apple TV. It works fine, but is a pain.

As to the OPs query about Facebook live, I don't use my Apple TV for facebook stuff.

Very true. I've had Apple phones for many years now which is due to the company that I work for,supplying me with a corporate phone. Because of this, online music, games and such have been purchased through iTunes.

Regardless of Android or Apple user, there is no comparison in the number of apps. The Fire TV wins hands down. The Fire TV may be Android but that is never really evident. It is a home media player, not a phone. There are currently over 5000 apps available for the Fire TV.

Here you go. Choose the one you want according to your needs. The Apple TV works for me because I have other Apple products at home:

Apps =/= Streaming Services

If you want a gaming platform or an information platform, then a platform with a bunch of apps is the way to go. Any of the 100s of inexpensive China-manufactured Android TV boxes are a good way to put thousands upon thousands of Android apps on your TV. I've even seen those Android TV boxes on sale at WalMart. To me, they're more of a project to tinker with than a tool for media consumption. At least Amazon is curating the apps that go on Fire TV.

If you want a streaming platform with the most options for watching streaming content, Roku is the way to go. It just doesn't happen to fit the OP's very specific interest in Facebook Live.

Why bother with the china-mfg stuff? A Fire TV Stick is $40 for a voice activated model, $35 for refurb. It would be impossible to put 'thousands' of apps on the the thing anyway. You would quickly run out of memory. The idea is to have what you need or want and with so many to choose from your chances of finding it are better. Yes, the apps are curated by Amazon but even if they are not, you can 'sideload' many other apps that are not in the Amazon appstore.
