This is an old model - XS, or what I think was called Roku 2. We've had it for years and just moved it after several months downtime and a fried modem (winter storm), to another TV, and I can't get the thing to respond to the remote. Have changed the batteries and watched all the Youtubes about pairing the new batteries - can't get anything to respond. I get the home screen but can't get down to the settings so I can hook it up to the new modem. No button produces any kind of response, although the little green light in the hockey puck flickers every time I push a button.

Am I doomed to getting a newer model?

Try these:

https://www.technipages.com/reset-roku

If those don't work, for the difference in cost between a remote and a new roku, I'd just get a new Roku.

Tks for the website. Very helpful. I did manage the hard reset (via the button), but after "what language do you want?" the pairing thing did not work. New batteries so I'm guessing the remote has gone bad. The TV display is still stuck on "Pair your remote" and I've pushed the pairing button till I'm blue in the face and it's been 10 or 15 minutes now, so I guess I've had it.
