I have these bolts that I'm trying to find longer ones on ebay but I can't figure out the name of them. They're specific because only 2 of the 4 sides are threaded, and instead of the shank where the threads are being round, it's sort of square shaped as the threads are only on two sides.
I think this makes a difference because the bolt goes inside of my speaker keyhole on the back so I can mount it to a speaker stand. I use the included star shaped clamping nut to tighten to the bolt to the speaker stand. I think this bolt makes it sort of self-tightening as I can't get to the back of the bolt to hold it down as it's in the speaker keyhole.
But I saw the same type of bolts on the Sanus stands I had before. The instruction manual only lists the size of the bolt, but doesn't say what it's called.
Well, I don't know the terminology but I assume the flat sides match with a slot shaped hole to prevent the screw from turning as you tighten the nut.
If you're missing one or more (I assume that's why you ask) just go to the hardware store, buy a normal screw with the same thread, and file it flat on two sides. It is extremely unlikely that you will be able to purchase an exact replacement part from any general supplier.
I have seen some of those in something I had once. I don't know that they have a commonly known name. They probably have some sort of name but they are so uncommon, you don't see them available anywhere. I would just do as turf3 suggested and go to the hardware store and get the same size and thread pitch bolts in the length you need and just grind or file two sides flat. It shouldn't be very difficult since you will just be filed threads off.
I just went through that this weekend. My speaker stands came with those bolts too and the screw head thingys'. After 30 minutes of futzing with it I just used a plain old screw that was also in the box. Worked great.
