This is the port on my DVD player. In the picture, the two red circles show the port (left) and the cable connector (right). I need to buy a cable with the other end being HDMI but don't know what this end is called. What is the name for this type? Thanks

I agree. It's likely a port to control the DVD from a pc. I would not connect a HDMI to it. OP should read the DVD user manual and see what it's for.

That type of USB cable is commonly called a USB Printer cable and yes it's a USB Type B on one side and Type A on the other. It has nothing to do with HDMI.

I think it may be some type of audio out connection? I am not sure, never seen it on a DVD player before.

You probably do not need it.

You are all right: this is the port on my DVD player* (see below for correction) that is used to connect to my PC. I bought this LITE ON DVD player 1-2 decades ago. I has only this USB type 2 port, an AC adapter plugin in, and on/off button. That's all. I'm think that if I get a USB type 2 to HDMI cable, I can then connect it directly to my LCD monitor, without through the computer. The monitor has its own speaker. So that way I think I can listen to CD or watch DVD without turning on my computer?

*Important Correction: It should be called EXTERNAL DVD DRIVE, not DVD player!
