I received a email today from "comcast" my service provider
It didn't seem right so I called comcast and asked.
They said DO NOT go to the webforum in the email this is a "SPAM" email that will try to get your personal information by using the we need to verify your information claim
He said if you get one of these emails just delete it
I forwarded the one I got so they could research it.

this is what the email said

the subject line was "An Important Notification !"

"We apologize if u had any trouble accessing our services. In the last month we have worked day and night, for the improvement of our services. We want to do our best, and make it as simple as possible for us, but especially for you, our valued customer. From the beginning of this year we have had a big number of solicitations and because of this it was necessary to replace the old database server with a new one, which has the information about our new clients, and where some of our clients are going to get moved. Please verify your information until February 28, 2007 and help us avoid the lock-out of your services. We require all old accounts to verify their information on file with us. To verify your billing now, please visit our secure server webform by clicking the hyperlink below:

https://www.comcast.net/verification (broken link)

If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to temporary suspend your account.
We appreciate your business and hope to keep you as a customer for life.
Comcast Online is so easy; no wonder it's number one !
We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thank You for using Comcast."

Did it actually say u instead of you? And threatening to suspend your account-wow, that's pretty nasty for such a 'friendly' little email!

yes the "u" was one of the redflags and the suspend was another so I picked up the phone. when I read the email to the cs rep he said "please hold on I need you to talk to our tech guys" he explained the scam then asked me to foward the email so they could research it.
I wanted to let everyone know because there are people out they that get taken by these scams

I don't use anything from ComCrap but their wire, and I might read their news occasionally. I've always been turned off by the AOL-ish portals out there. I have my sources for information, which I believe to be the best, and I've been using them for years. I wouldn't even use ComCrap if Verizon would put FIOS in my area, but we've been sorely neglected by that company in my neck of the woods.

A good rule of thumb to follow is this: if you receive an unsolicited email from ANY company you have an online account with and it says for you to click on a hyperlink to verify some information, DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK! Contact the company in question via phone or logging on to their website from scratch. Most companies will asked for you to forward to them to verify it was a bogus email. Once they do they'll usually send you a confirmation email verifying it. And of course delete it!

More times than not it is some scumbag "phishing" for your personal info. Most people can't tell the "fake" websites from the legit ones.
