Default is this a battery or camera problem?

A few days ago my cannon point and shoot digital camera, using Energizer lithium AA batteries first had a problem with the screen. It went white, but worked again when the batteries were removed and replaced. Then a few hours later, it was hot to the touch, wouldn't turn on, and the batteries were hot and looked like they had expanded. Does this sound like a problem with the camera or the batteries?

Batteries. Get some new ones before those leak/explode in your camera.

thank you. Is this common for this type of battery? We replaced the batteries with the same type and it happened again a couple days later. We haven't used the camera since.

Are you using the battery type called for in the owners manual? If not then the lithium batteries are to powerful for the camera. Not all batteries are the same.

To be safe try a set of alkaline batteries first to see if the camera still works if not the the batteries that you had in it have damaged the camera.

it doesn't specifically mention lithium batteries, but I don't think they were even available when the camera came out. I have been using the same kind of batteries for months now, and this is the first problem.

Batteries that swell indicate a short either in the camera or the batteries. if you would rather not buy another camera try a set of alkaline's before you give up. If they swell or get hot then the camera is defective somehow and time for new one.

I put some regular alkaline batteries in it and it seems to work fine. We'll see if it lasts. Thanks for your input.
