I do not think that is the case. I am from Florida and miss Publix. We just had one open 2 weeks ago here in Chattanooga. Now we are being transfered to Knoxville. Nothing beats Publix, nothing. People have this notion that they are expensive. Really not true. they do not jack up prices to run other things on sale. I also paid almost a $1 less a gallon for milk at Publix than what wal mart is selling theirs for. It even taste better.
In Jacksonville, Fl we had Winn Dixie, I believe they either do now or once owned Food City. Their store brands are the same(winn dixie and food city), my point is that jax, fl is W/D home town and Publix does way more business than Winn Dixie. I do not think Food City will intimidate Publix from coming. Now Kroger may. Although I do not like Kroger near as much as Publix. I plan on going to the one Chattanooga every chance I get, well I can't go every week but when I am in the area I will stock up on Publix brand.

As for anybody wondering about Publix coming to Knoxville, don't expect to see Publix in the area anytime soon due to Food City's big presence in the area.

I currently live in the Tampa Bay area but am moving to Cookeville soon. After reading this thread I called Publix's Real Estate department, and they stated there are currently no plans for any store in the Cookeville area. Though this could change. And who knows, maybe there ARE considerations being made and they just don't want their competitors to know yet.

I like Publix; some of the name-brand prices are higher but their store brands are of good quality and usually cheaper. And their service is excellent.

While out and about in one of my rare ventures from my cozy domain yesterday, I heard that Aldi's is coming to Cookeville. Across from Kroger is what the ladies said.
