I agree..I live only seven minutes from jackson street where all the shopping is..and Cane Creek school is about five mins away...I think it is someone in my neighborhood as well...It is a very populated subdivision that I live in..I live in a small cul-de-sac but within a five mile radius is many many houses. It could be anywhere in a few mile radius that picked his cul-de-sac because you can not see it from the main road.

This is all within the last five years that this has happened as well....

I just read in the herald citizen a drive by shooting happened last night and a second hispanic business was robbed at gun shot.... a woman was raped in Monterey about last week.....

Not long ago up in Monterey a woman was kidnapped at Perdue and hurt...

I do not see that there are many murders here..which is great..but I think crime is evolving pretty good here in Cookeville.

COOKEVILLE -- Methamphetamine, that synthetic drug which is so addictive and dangerous in several ways, is making a comeback.

And police here want the public to know that.

lol. I've typed and erased 3 different responses to this thread over the course of the week. lol

As a former Sheriff's Deputy in central Florida and a decently travelled man, I submit some of you need to get out more so as to gain perspective of what you have in Cookeville in regards to it's "crime rate".

My brother is a Sheriffs Deputy in Cookeville, so I will take my que from what he tells me along with my daily experiences over the past 30 years in the area. Granted I have seen crime increas greatly over the years, but still compared to larger cities and other areas the crime rate here isnt somthing Im going to worry about.

News, Why Are We Losing The Meth War?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Laws have been passed, task forces created and millions of tax dollars spent to combat the growing problem of methamphetamine abuse.

Officials say meth has become harder to detect, and quicker and easier to make. Waging the war against meth has already cost the state an estimated $1 billion.

LOL. I wasnt really sure if you were saying it was safe or not safe. But I agree it is safe compared to many places.
I really think the published crime statistics are misleading.

I want to speak directly towards this comment.

Crime statistics in general are VERY misleading because the lack of uniformed reporting practices and oversight.

Our Sheriff, in the opinion of many, damn near blatantly lies about our true local crime statistics here in central Florida. For example: Before I left we were having a rash of copper thefts. I believe our major crimes bureau had near 70 cases unsolved. My partner and I were deep in the sticks tracking a warrant when we noticed a truck pass by us with no head lights on (3am). We stopped the vehicle and noticed a truck bed full of wiring, air conditioners etc.

Upon further investigation, the guy admitted he had just ripped it all out of a near by construction site. Our Sheriff commands our detectives clear the copper theft case load by charging the guy with all 70 counts. He justified this by saying the guy admitted to other thefts... Others? Sure. 70, no.

This allowed the Sheriff to get on TV and in the papers championing that the "case of the mysterious copper thefts" had been solved and cleared. Meanwhile, the state attorneys office looks at the charge and throws out all but the one I had originally arrested him for. Meanwhile, nothing else was done on the copper theft front and guess what? It just kept getting worse. Happens every day all day. That is in no way an exaggeration.

Reasons behind this and other reporting practices: Have to justify your budget and you have to convince people to vote for you. Simple as that.
