The web site for the Cumberland Business Journal is:

>> Upper Cumberland Business Journal | UCBJournal.com Home <<

I don't think they archive articles on their web site, but you can probably contact the paper and ask them about it.

However, the article about the Cookeville Mall's future was in the Herald-Citizen, not the Cumberland Business Journal. I'm sorry for not making the clarification. The Cumberland Business Journal reported on Home Depot and Hooters coming to Cookeville, that was in their March 2007 edition. The Herald-Citizen article about the future of the mall was published on March 10, 2007.

From the July 1 Herald-Citizen:

"The new clinic at 851 South Willow Avenue will replace the VA clinic currently located on Neal Street. The new state-of-the-art clinic will be an expansion in services, personnel and size, said Donald Frugé, executive vice president of Valor Healthcare...

"The new VA clinic will offer both primary care and mental health services for military veterans of the Upper Cumberland Region. Primary care services include on-site laboratories, diagnosis and treatment of common ailments, routine physical examinations, prescription of medicines, EKGs, immunizations, X-rays and referrals to specialists or VA hospitals. All primary care physicians at the clinic are board certified in either internal medicine or family practice. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants also have national certification in their respective fields."
Did not know that, thank you. That was a nice, brand new place they were in on Neal St.,albiet a bit small.I'm sure with all the new doctors coming in it will be filled soon. That's become a real nice area over there, add to that the Averitt building is done & it looks great!

The VA has hospitals in the following Tennessee cities:
Johnson City
Memphis
Murfreesboro
Nashville

The VA has clinics in the following Tennessee cities:
Chattanooga
Clarksville
Cookeville
Knoxville
Savannah

According to the Herald-Citizen article that announced the expansion of the Cookeville clinic, a lot of vets in the Cookeville area don't even know that there is a VA clinic in Cookeville. Since it's being expanded, I assume (and hope) that means that more vetersans are using it and are pleased with the quality of care received.

Default Cookeville Info

Interesting information about the comings and goings on in Cook-Vegas!

Certainly the buzz has been ongoing for a while concerning Home Depot, Publix, the Mall coming down/going up, Fairfield Inn by Marriot, etc. etc.

I've had some direct talks with the folks at Publix and their team is saying that Cookeville 'at this time isn't on our expansion list, but we appreciate your interest'....that was a direct quote..they may be stalling or not yet ready to give out that information.

I do know Olive Garden is getting ready to pull the trigger for a groundbreaking...whether it's 30 days or 60 days, it is close. I don't know whether they've yet pulled a building permit. I kind of doubt it.

Fairfield Inn by Marriot had announced plans to build next to the Interstate by Sam's Club..this was in the spring, but as of yet, nothing is going on. Noticed the "For Sale" sign now has a 'sold' sign attached to it.

The movie theater is going up quickly! They are hoping for a November completion date..not sure if they will make it by that date...it'll be a HUGE improvement over the former building...Carmike finally did something...

Yeah I wouldn't put any credence in what the Publix people told you. The Sam's Club people told me the same thing a few years ago when I inquired if they were going to open a store in Cookeville, and we see what happened with that.

Even though I think Mauricio's and Mama Rosa's in Cookeville have about the best Italian food I've had in Tennessee, I'm still excited to see Olive Garden come to town.

I put Mauricio's in a totally different category...to me, it's a wonderful, QUIET place to take my bride for an EXCELLENT dinner! ...was just there this past Saturday night...my spending habits will not change with Mauricio's when OG comes to town....I don't consider them competition.

We go with family to Mama Rosa's and love their Calzones....

Olive Garden is just like many other chains..good, very consistent and something different...

I'm tickled to see that Gondola House is opening back up. The original owner, a Greek fellow, is coming back from retirement and moving back to Cookeville (from Florida, of course). I hope he'll be able to stay in business after Olive Garden comes to town. I'm assuming Olive Garden is going up somewhere along Restaurant Row.
