As of July 15th Cookeville will be our new home !!!!!
We have noticed Jack n the Box has closed. We were out west in December (Calif.) stopped in and though it was good . We do not have one in
Memphis. To bad I think it would go over well here. Would someone tell me why they closed .
Thanks your new neighbor as of the 15th. Chris & Darlene.

Welcome to Cookeville! I hope you love living there as much as I love wishing I could live there. (I hope to make the move to Cookeville within the next year or two, if all goes according to plans.)

Last year Jack in the Box closed 40 stores in the Southeast, including Cookeville and several others in the Nashville area. And really, the Cookeville location was horribly located. That's kind of a dead corner. Because it's right at the intersection of two major arteries, it's almost impossible to get in/out of there unless you happen to be turning right, going in or coming out.

Two Memphis iconic restaurants used to be in that spot, too: Danvers and Corky's. Over the years that spot has also been home to Po Folks and some roadhouse-themed steakhouse (can't remember the name, but it was part of the Shoney's company).

If you want a really good burger, head out highway 70 (Spring Street) west a few miles and try the Dipsy Doodle. Nothing fancy, but awesome burgers and really good, down home breakfasts (like biscuits and chocolate gravy) and delicious lunch specials.

And again, welcome to Cookeville!! I sure hope the move goes ok for you.

There seems to be some activity at the old Jack in the Box location. The "For Sale" sign has been removed. There is a large construction debris container sitting next to the building. Has anybody heard any details of what might be happening there?

I haven't heard anything, but I'm going to check with some well-connected friends in Cookeville to see what they say. The city also keeps on its web site a list of building permits issued. As soon as they post the June permits maybe that'll give us a clue (assuming the permit was issued in June).
