We moved to Cookeville and I am having a heck of a time finding a job. I've applied for everything - jobs that I'm over qualified for as well (so I've been told), and nothing. I work in the secretarial field and have done so for 30 years. Thinking of moving out to Murfreesboro and hopefully have better luck out there. Any thoughts?
Thanks much!

The most recent unemployment rates (September) are 9% for Putnam County and 8.5% for Rutherford County. In addition, there are 129,380 jobs in Rutherford County vs. 33,900 in Putnam County, not to mention the fact that Rutherford County is part of the Nashville MSA which has 770,680 jobs and an unemployment rate of 8.5%.

So yes, you'd probably have an easier time getting a job in Murfreesboro than in Cookeville.

Have you applied @ TTU? They seem to have posted a few openings there lately. I interviewed today for a position that I am definitely overqualified for and for a pay level that I shouldn't even be considering. But I am.

I would say you'd have better luck closer to Nashville. But, try TTU and the hospital (crmchealth.org) and I would suggest going to the career center on Jefferson. When my husband & I moved here we had a heck of a time finding jobs. He found a job in Nashville and traveled for 4 yrs. My personal experince, sometimes it's best not to mentioned you moved here from another state. Good Luck!

I did apply at TTU and had an interview yesterday. Waiting to hear...they said I was overqualified as well - don't know the pay but heard it "sucked".

I understand about not mentioning being from another state - but it indicates on my resume.
