Smile Cookeville, The Golden Corral Restaurant. Military Appreciation Monday.

Military Appreciation Monday

November 12, 2007

For the past 6 years, Golden Corral has been honoring the US Military with a free “thank you” dinner and beverage at any Golden Corral restaurant on Military Appreciation Monday (first Monday after Veteran’s Day). This year, Golden Corral has designated Monday, November 12, 2007, from 5 to 9 pm, to honor any person who has ever served in the United States Military.

From the first Military Appreciation Monday in 2001 to the present, Golden Corral has donated 1.5 million free “thank you” meals and $1.9 million dollars to the Disabled American Veterans.

Between November 1 and November 12, 2007, the Disabled American Veterans Organization will accept contributions to be used in the local and state DAV chapters.

They got back tonight. Dad had a blast. he was right in his element with all the vets. No one saw any other WWII vets there and he was given the royal treatment. He was a bit weak tonight and 2 Navy men helped him walking to the food bars. They took on being his personal assistants for the night.

He took his discharge papers and his Purple Hearts. Thats only 2 of the table full of medals. He wore his medic badges on his paperboy goodfellows cap...I call it that.

He wanted to wear his uniform but mom said it was too dressy. She made him change.Yep, after 62 years it still fits and he's still looks snappy. It's still pressed and looks like new.

Although they did have a bit of a mishap tonight. Mom couldn't see my driveway to drop Lissie off and drove right into the ditch! Rick pulled it out but not before the Police came. a dozen cars stopped and good people blocked the road so Rick could pull it out. Mom was shaken up. I had to calm her down. She's got some heart problems and dad wasn't shaken a bit. He smiled at her and asked if her Sweet Tea was a Long Island Iced Tea.

We helped them home. Tony and I had to hold onto dad. He was tired from standing in that long line and the excitement. Sat there for a while so they got passed that down, tired feeling after you get so excited.

A very exciting night.

What a wonderful evening! (Well, except for ending up in the ditch!) I would've LOVED to be at the Golden Corral and see all those vets. I bet your dad really does look dapper in his uniform. I probably would've been moved to tears at seeing all those other vets honor your dad like that. He really is part of The Greatest Generation. Thanks so much for sharing with us how the evening went. I know you treasure every moment you're able to spend with your hero dad (and mom).
