While I'm not too wild about what all the pending construction will do to campus parking, I'm excited for what all Tennessee Tech has planned. As Tennessee Tech continues to grow towards 15,000 students, the university is planning new academic buildings, a larger university center, a new intramural building, more green space, and more athletic facilities. Much of the parking on campus now will be moved to the perimeter areas, including, it seems, where the current Foundation Hall stands (the former Central High School/Cookeville Junior High School/Prescott Central Middle School).

Here's the master plan:

Tech's Integrated Science building is on the approved Capital Outlay listing from the Tennessee Board of Regents. It has been on the listing since 2007; so, if the Governor and Legislature fund the $80 million cost (and the ten projects ahead of it approximating $180 million are funded), then it would move to being built. However.....items on the approved listing are notorious for staying on the listing for several years. Items cannot move forward unless a higher ranked project comes off the list, e.g. MTSU's Science Building clogged up the project listing for several years and was finally approved as an outlay project for approximately $150 million.

Another way this project could be moved forward would be if the Legislature and Governor approved Master Plan funding to allow the project to go forward.

It will be interesting to see what the Governor proposes for Outlay in his budget when it is announced in his upcoming State of the State address.

Lots of nice buildings, but what percentage of TTU instructors are adjuncts? Pay them a living wage first, build the playground later.

The G.I. Depot at the corner of Willow and 7th is having a moving sale, saying that TTU's growth is about to take over the property. I wonder if this means that the university is getting close to starting construction on the new intramural building.

That's pretty exciting! There are several buildings that will need to be torn down, and frankly this will be an improvement. It'll make 7th Street a more attractive gateway to the university/medical center district.

As well, Tech's proposed Science Building will move up to number two on the capital outlay listing should the legislature approve the Governor's 2015-16 state budget.

Which means the likelihood of construction is entirely possible in 2016-17.

The new sciences building and the new intramural center are going to do wonders to improve Tech's appearance and, hopefully, its competitiveness with other universities. U.T., despite having stagnant enrollment for over 30 years, has had tens of millions of dollars in new construction all over the campus whereas Tech, which is more than 50% larger now than 30 years ago, has seen a grand total of only four new academic buildings: Bryan Fine Arts Center, the Volpe library, the nursing building, and the STEM building. The U.C. also desperately needs to be enlarged which, if I'm not mistaken, Tech can do without state funding since student fees will pay for it.

At any rate, I'm excited to finally see some new academic buildings on campus. I wonder when they'll reveal the design of the intramural center?

Is TTU getting a new fine arts classroom building? Bids are being accepted on Oct 4 for a $1.5 million, 58,000 square foot fine arts classroom building in Cookeville, and I can only assume it's at Tech.

BID ON FINE ARTS CLASSROOM BUILDING (Cookeville, TN) | (800) 6520008 - Construction Data Company

Bids were taken yesterday for demolition of structures at TTU, and I can assume they're for the new intermurals building going up at the corner of Willow & 7th.

And it looks like bids will be taken on Oct 6 for the new $7 million, 150,000 square foot science building at Tech.

Austin Peay and ETSU have Fine Arts buildings in the works...not sure about Tech; that could be roof replacement or HVAC upgrades even though it states new construction because the project value is only $1.5M. The new fitness building's bids were due in on 8/16/15; it's a $40M project.

I don't think the new Science building will be in the works until 2016-17 or later; it is number two (ranked by importance) on TBR's Capital Outlay list. The Governor didn't add it to his Capital Outlay awards for the 2015-16 budget. In 2014, Tech redrew its plans for the sciences complex...scaling it back a bit...from several facilities to a single building housing chemistry and some biology programs while planning to renovate Pennebaker Hall for the remaining biology programs. However, I do not know why the bid invitation is there....could be to bid for planning purposes, the project appears valued at $69.6M.
