I'm a Tennessean from Hendersonville, working overseas until next summer. At that time, I'll be in the market for a modest retirement home within a couple hours drive from my family and friends in Hendersonville. I want to spend my retirement years in a peaceful, rural environment - though not overly far from medical and shopping facilities (20 miles or so). If any readers would be able to offer advice, observations, insights, or suggestions, they'd be much appreciated.

Frank

Hilham is a beautiful area, and the state park there (Standing Stone) is really nice. It's only 10-15 miles from Cookeville, which has a gigantic hospital and all the shopping/restaurants you'd ever need thanks largely to its status as a university town. Livingston is also nice and is connected to I-40 in Cookeville by a four-lane highway. Livingston also has its own hospital, although my friends who live in Cookeville still go to the hospital in Cookeville for major medical care and go to Cookeville for entertainment, eating out, etc.
