I agree, that does seem like a pretty big space. I wonder if they'll do a HomeGoods and Marshall's and make it a TJMaxx/HomeGoods/Marshall's trifecta. I know they co-brand stores in other areas but I don't know if they have stores with all 3 brands.

Whatever they have planned, they're getting it done quickly. I drove by there yesterday, and the storage buildings are completely gone now. There's just some debris left, but the buildings themselves have vanished. I hope we'll find out soon what they have up their sleeves.

They did move fast. Probably more cost effective.

I wonder what they did with the roll-up doors. I've been looking for a few.

I drove by today and it appears to me that they are now demolishing the Interstate Center building. Took me by surprise as I thought that they might use it for a showroom with the big windows/doors.

I wish Home Depot could locate there, but that would be very cramped and it is directly in the middle of the development. Perhaps they will find a suitable spot elsewhere.

Amen.

Wherever, or whenever Depot might come here would be great. Lowes needs competition. But I'm not holding my breath.

No new car brands for Cumberland Auto, unfortunately. Instead, they're expanding the Toyota lot and adding a pre-owned center called Overdrive USA. The new building will be 30,000 square feet. They expect it to be the largest used car lot between Nashville and Knoxville.

By the way, I drove by there today, and the former Interstate Center is now completely gone. Overdrive USA should be completed by this summer.

It seems that every bare piece of land is in play this year.
OK I was at AMC Highland 12 today and saw that the lot you talked about is definitely being developed. It's been leveled and roped off with some earth moving equipment on site. I looked it up, and the owner of that lot is Shreeji Swami LLC who has developed Microtel Inns in a few places such as Pigeon Forge TN and Meridian MS. The lot is just over 1.5 acres which is the same size as the lot next door where La Quinta is. Sooo, I'm going out on a limb and saying it looks like a Microtel Inn will be rising on this site before long.

An article in today's paper talks about the record-setting amount of development in 2017 in Cookeville and mentions that the construction going on next to the AMC theaters is for a Candlewood Suites hotel, part of the IHG/Holiday Inns conglomerate.

Of note from the article:
  • 2017 saw $34.9 million in new housing in Cookeville.
  • There were $7 million in new medical buildings.
  • There are three new hotels which should start construction this year: the Candlewood Suites mentioned above, the new Hilton conference center downtown, and a full-service Holiday Inn on Willow where Raceway used to be.

Yeah the H-C didn't word that right. They called the Shoppes at Eagle Point the "nearly $8 million development" when they should've said that there's been $8 million worth of permits pulled so far for Eagle Point. Two permits totaling just over $4 million were pulled in November, and one worth just under $4 million was pulled in December.

So with $42 million remaining for this year at Eagle Point, and with the huge building projects at TTU which haven't received building permits yet, and the three new hotels, 2018 will likely be another record-breaking year for construction in Cookeville. It's going to be fun to see what new restaurants and retail come to town this year, in addition to new industrial announcements which are rumored to be coming.
