Do you suppose this is related to the 250 acres the city is trying to annex at the SE corner of I-40/Hwy 111 for an industrial prospect? My guess is it's a different prospect since the property owners of those 250 acres can't vote to be annexed into the city until the May elections. I'm eager to find out what the announcement in March will be.

I would guess not at 111 and I40.

With a one-year increase of 100 percent in its Cookeville ridership, UCHRA is about to construct a new, $4 million transit hub on the south side of town. To be located on South Jefferson on the southern edge of Cookeville near the White County line, this will be a 30,000 square foot hub which will replace UCHRA's current, cramped quarters across the street from Office Max in Cookeville.

In addition to providing bus service in Cookeville, UCHRA provides public transportation and other services to rural residents of all ages throughout the 14 county Upper Cumberland Region and also provides express bus services to Nashville (airport and downtown). Last year, UCHRA drivers drove 2.6 million miles.

UCHRA receives TDOT transit hub grant | UCBJ - Upper Cumberland Business Journal

I had a chance to drive around town this afternoon and take pictures of some of the developments taking shape. I didn't take pictures of the Shoppes at Eagle Point nor of the new construction at Tennessee Tech. It was too dark by the time I got to the Copper Springs development on East Spring (townhouses, detached houses, retail, and the new home of Relatient healthcare technology corporation) to take any pictures. And I'm sure I missed others. I also didn't even attempt to take pictures of the dozens of single family homes springing up all over town, and I didn't take pictures of any of the subdivisions being developed outside of town. Anyway, here's what I've got:

Candlewood Suites Hotel, located on South Jefferson next to the AMC Highland 12 movie theater

Eye Institute of Cookeville, located in the Perimeter Park office park off Neal Street

Wheeler Orthodontics, located on Veterans Drive off Neal Street. Nice view.

Shoppes on South Jefferson. No retailers announced yet.

Romo's Mexican restaurant rehab of the old Applebee's building

Windsor Hill Island, 33 condos off East Spring Street

Greystone. 61 higher-end homes off East Broad Street

Cypress Ridge, 30+ condos off Quinland Lake Road

Townhouses on 10th Street (I don't know the name of the development)

Townhouses on Fisk behind the 10th Street CVS

The final phase of Downton Square, condos off East Spring Street

The Gables at Veterans

I noticed the other day that the antique store on the ground floor of the Maddux Building downtown is gone, and my friend at city hall said a moonshine distillery is in talks with the city to go there. No timeline yet. Here's the building, which is located on the SW corner of Washington and Spring:

While not as exciting as landing a new retailer, Aldi is expanding its Cookeville store. A manager there told me they're knocking out the back wall and extending the store. The expansion will include updated fixtures, a walk-in freezer, a walk-in cooler, and a walk-in cooler just for meats. He said it should be done by the end of next month. He said the Cookeville Aldi is one of the region's top performers.

Yeah, the store will be completely closed for a few weeks. We have been planning on stocking up big time before they close. Love Aldi!

They did this last summer to our Aldi's before Lidl came in. Much fresher look and more space.

Leaving Kroger today I noticed someone with a sign on the sidewalk abut Jefferson that stated "Going Out Of Business." First thought was that it is the Rent A Center. There were oddly parked trucks/storage units immediately in front of RAC.

If so, could make way for Kroger expansion. Anyone know? Won't help parking...but I wonder.
