More hints from the mayor on what retailers and restaurants are (hopefully) coming to town. The city is renewing its contract with the same company that brought Publix, Academy Sports, and the rest of Shoppes at Eagle Point, to bring additional retailers to town. Here are the retailers and restaurants he mentioned:
Food City
Jim N Nicks
Denny’s
Five Guys Burgers and Fries
Popeyes
Home Goods
Burke’s Outlet
Dick’s Sporting Goods
JoAnn Fabric and Craft Store
Target
Home Depot

I know some of these are already scouting out locations in Cookeville (Food City, Burke's Outlet, Denny's). With increased wages, record low unemployment, record new home construction, and being the 8th fastest growing micropolitan area in the country, it's exciting to see what's possibly coming.

Wasn't Five Guys touted as part of Shoppes at Eagle Point previously?

Not originally, although there were rumors. But the mayor just posted on his Facebook page 10 minutes ago that Five Guys is now officially part of Eagle Point.

If I tank up at 5 Guys before shopping at the new Aldi and Publix stores maybe I will exercise better judgment. I do like prices at Aldi, ice cream from Publix, and fries from 5 Guys. If wishful thinking would get the new shops up and running they would be open now. Sure would like to see a Costco in the mix.

I am really hoping Cookeville will get a Target! Though we don't live there yet, we are definitely considering the move to Cookeville after my husband graduate(in two years).

What's the deal with event tents up on the site of the future downtown hotel near Crawdaddy's?

Taste of the Town is going to be held there this Saturday, during which (from what I've been told) they'll release the final architectural plans for the downtown hotel/conference center. There are something like 25-30 restaurants which participate in Taste of the Town.

The property was fenced off last weekend.

I noticed that, too. They also had some earth-moving equipment behind the fencing. I hope this means demolition of the existing buildings will begin soon.
