The mayor was on Brent Fleshman's radio show this morning on 107.7 and said the former Krispy Kreme building is leased and that another retailer was in town last week to finalize discussions on taking over the old KMart building. He couldn't reveal any names but said formal announcements should be coming in the next few days and weeks.

The Krispy Kreme building is in such an awkward place, I'm curious to find out who's going to try it. As for the old KMart building, I'll wager it's Rural King.

Are the old Sears and Food Lion in Jackson Plaza still vacant?
Thought the old KMart would have been a good fit for one of the Family Fun Centers that was mentioned.

Food Lion is still alive and well. I was just there yesterday. The old Sears is still vacant. It's only been a couple of months since it closed but I'm sure it won't be long before it's leased, too. I'm betting it'll be HomeGoods and/or Marshalls.

Someone had told me Food Lion had closed. Glad to hear that was wrong. My son worked there, manager is a really good guy.

Food Lion in Jackson Plaza has been pretty much our exclusive grocery shopping place for the last couple of months. Just a much better shopping experience for us than Kroger. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact Publix have on them. I kind of fear the worst for Food Lion.

I will hit Food Lion here on way way home from work and grab the sale items. But with 10 different grocery stores within 5 miles, plus Sam's, it's easy to shop the sales.

Has anyone been on Kroger since the remodel? Wondering how much it changed.

More cosmetic changes than dealing with the customer complaints.

I just went to the Kroger in Cookeville for the first time since its "grand reopening." I don't get it. What kind of remodeling did they do? It looks like the same cramped and crowded Kroger as before. Publix can't get here fast enough.

Yep, just some minor changes and facelift but the pain factor when shopping at Kroger still exists. The aisles are too narrow and the parking lot is too small.

They timed the grand reopening to coincide with Aldi's reopening which explains the move.

At least hand baskets are "more" (and I loosely use the term more) available now.
