A little more clarification on this. The visible earth work behind Veterans Barbershop and The Gables is going to be one story townhouse type units being built by the developers of The Gables. The luxury condos mentioned in the Herald Citizen will be developed by another developer. Once again per barbershop gossip.

Thanks for the update. That makes sense. I'm just glad that trailer park is no more. Don't get me wrong; I totally understand the need for lower income housing, and there are such things as nice mobile home parks. But this was not one of those.

Cookeville has steadily opened local craft alcohol vendors in beer and moonshine, but now has gained a new winery.

Paris Winery opened last month on Spring Street just east of the courthouse square downtown. With 30 wines, customers can enjoy samples before making their selection.

The winery run by Roger and Lisa Ciarrocchi is the second location for the business.

The Ciarrocchis initially opened their Paris, Tennessee location after running from hurricanes while living in Florida. Paris Winery opened in 2008 after Roger Ciarrocchi planted 5,500 grapevines in 2005.

"So we just kind of evolved into a winery with the folks in Paris receiving us and taking pride in "'their winery,'" Lisa Ciarrocchi said.

After seeing a picture in a magazine of the Cookeville area, the Ciarrocchis fell in love with the area and purchased property in the Cumberland Cove area.

"We came out to the Cookeville area to take a look and fell in love with the region and the people," she said.

Construction has started on the former Sears building to house Hobby Lobby and an additional tenant which hasn't been named yet. Owners of the Jackson Plaza shopping center said a national retailer new to the area has signed a lease but isn't able to be named yet. Supposedly, employees at TJMaxx are saying it'll be a HomeGoods. Grand opening will be in summer 2019.

It certainly looks like a Homegoods, or at least like the Homegoods/TJ Maxx hybrid in Mt. Juliet

Wow, that is really great news JMT! It is one of my favorite stores. This will do very well with all of the new homes being constructed and lack of competition. I know Lebanon is probably hating lol...

There's a short run-down in today's paper of the record-breaking growth taking place in Putnam County. In 2017 the city of Cookeville issued 430 building permits worth $78,501,539. This year, with December figures not even included, the city has issued 491 building permits worth $222,640,439. Much of the increased cost is attributed to big-ticket items like the Shoppes at Eagle Point shopping center, several construction projects at TTU, and new industrial buildings like Colorobbia. And these figures don't include what's happening in the rest of the county. I know Baxter has seen record-breaking new home construction, and 2019 will bring even more to Baxter as the $150 million Portobello factory and the apartment/retail development on Hwy 70 get started.

Noticed that the Fixture World warehouse section on Interstate Drive is being demolished...perhaps the Anchor Down and rest of that space will be torn down as well. Anyone know what's going on with the property?

Looks like someone at the H-C saw your question. Apparently, that entire building is coming down which I guess should make it easier to sell. That whole lot is just under 10 acres and is zoned commercial-industrial. The asking price is over $7 million which seems pretty steep to me, but who knows.
