Pizza, Beer and family fun is a successful business model going back decades. Shakey's has been doing it since I was a kid.

Agreed! And with the roller skating rink, Childrens museum, and bounce house (fun factory) all closing last year we definitely need more family friendly places to take the kids!

The children's museum should reopen after this covid mess is over, but even if not, have you tried Imagine Foundry? They advertise that their "programs help kids to: imagine and be innovative, design and create their inventions, access experts and professionals, find their passion & develop grit, and share and collaborate with others."

I've met a couple of their staff, and these are highly talented and educated people, including some with doctorates in childhood development. They offer classes and workshops for things like woodworking, crafts, problem solving (think Destination Imagination type puzzles), music, science and tech studios, and others. They just moved to a larger space on South Willow (former UCDD offices).

Ive seen this place before, it looks fantastic, will definitely have to check it out. I know that the Children's Museum would like to open up in a new place (their old place has a new occupant), but it's a matter of logistics, so time will tell.

Does anybody know what is going to be built on the property just west of Upperman High School in Baxter? The lot is almost 10 acres, mostly wooded which they have been clearing out for several weeks. Property appears to be zoned for commercial so just wondering who bought it and what they are going to build.

It's going to be an apartment complex, I think it'll have 60 units.

Speaking of Baxter, there's a lot going on in that little town. Land is being cleared and sewer lines installed to build 80 homes across the street from Dollar General, they're about to get started on 75 or so townhomes on Buffalo Valley Road just west of Hwy 56, and plans were just approved for 119 homes in a new subdivision on Main Street. Supposedly, another subdivision with 130 homes is in the planning stages just south of I-40. Taco Bell is about to get started south of I-40, and Portobello is looking for a summer start to its mammoth, $150 million plant, also south of I-40.

The demolition of the Quality Inn on S. Jefferson has begun; making way for the Hilton brand hotel on Lot 1 of the property.

You beat me to it. For clarification, though, only the front part of the existing Quality Inn is being demolished. The newer, 3-story part is going to remain a Quality Inn, while the older section is being torn down and replaced with the Hilton-branded hotel.

Yes; Lot 2 will remain the Quality Inn. Initially there were plans for three hotels on the property. Not sure if that is still the planned outcome.

I assume the 3rd hotel is the Super 8 which occupies the building on the back of the property and used to be part of the original Holiday Inn (now Quality Inn).
