There were Gaw-Bernhardt signs up not too long ago but the property data website shows Jerry Gaw is the owner now. I worked at that location about 13 years ago while I was at Tech. It wasn't too busy then. I am surprised it wasn't closed way before now. Agreed on leaving just an ATM. That seems kinda silly to waste all of that lot on just an ATM.

Someone "in the know" just told me that Jerry Gaw is building townhouses there. It's amazing how many townhouse developments are springing up all over town.

They're building townhomes at 10th and Breeding...which is close by, but more there? What's this spot zoned for? Perhaps so, because Bernhardt/Gaw signs are prominent there.

Bailey Manor out of Manchester is building an assisted living center in Cookeville that will specialize in patients with Alzheimer's and dementia. Located on Veterans Drive behind the Jefferson Ave Walmart, the facility will contain 28 rooms and nearly 21,000 square feet. Bailey Manor is a family-owned company that specializes in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Existing facilities are located in Manchester, Winchester and Fayetteville. The new Cookeville facility will open this spring.

Dominion Senior Living opened a 60 resident and has a total of 40 apartments in Crossville a couple of months ago and is a beautiful place...

Dominion Senior Living of Crossville is the only dedicated memory care community in the area – it’s designed for residents with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.

How neat. And not surprising. Cumberland County has the oldest median age in the state (48.3), while Putnam County has one of the youngest (34). There's certainly a large need for geriatric care in Cumberland County.

Yes, makes sense...the median age for the state is ~38.6....Cumberland County is a great retirement place and this contributes to the high median age, so the addition of Dominion Senior Living in Crossville is very positive.

Alzheimer and such is a very nasty disease and more facilities are needed everywhere...

P.S. I hear another Senior Living facility is looking into the area....

Some interesting info in today's paper about developments around Cookeville. The crux of the article is about the increase in residential construction, particularly single family homes, but there are several commercial developments mentioned.
  • Harbor Freight on Willow
  • new, unnamed hotels near Sam's Club and also at the old racetrack
  • a three story office building at the corner of Neal Street and Perimeter Park
  • a new, unnamed restaurant on Interstate Drive (maybe Moe's?)
  • a new restaurant at the rear of the Clarion Inn (Texas Roadhouse, as mentioned by llsmith42 in an earlier post?)
  • Tennessee Tech's new fitness center on Willow

Jeff Littrell, director of the city's Codes Department, said this about new commercial developments in town: “We do have a lot of phone calls coming in and prospects circling."

Hopefully, in the near future we can add the new Hilton hotel and conference center downtown and, of course, the Shoppes at Eagle Pointe.

Recent rumor was Chef Barry, of Bull & Thistle Fame, was going to have his business concern, the Fat Rabbit, near Rib City....I think I heard built....perhaps this is why Innovative Audio relocated.
