I would think not a lot due to all the trees..I hear a tornado loves the big wide open spaces to hills and mountains

What about Crossville? How often do tornados hit there?

I have been thru two seasons and I can tellya, there's no way I'd live in Sumner County.

My prayers are with those lost.

Unfortunatly, yes

I looked up fatality #s for KY & TN since the 1974 Super Outbreak.
TN had 112, KY had 18.

Maybe it's because TN has two large cities in the highest tornado risk zone, while KY's cities are out of the worst tornado areas. Nashville is also a super sprawly city, putting more areas w/ a lot of people in tornado danger??

According to Wikipedia KY & Tn had about the same # of tornadoes since 1950

According to NCDC figures for the 1950 to 2006 period, Mississippi reported 1,787 tornadoes followed by Arkansas ( 1,644), Louisiana (1,608), Alabama ( 1,579), Georgia (1,324), North Carolina (1,042), Tennessee (892), South Carolina (819), Kentucky (710) and Virginia (565). West Virginia , by contrast, is one of the least vulnerable states of all with just 120 tornadoes reported over the period.

TN ranked 5th in tornado fatalites
"" For the period 1950 to 2006, three hundred and fifty eight people were killed by tornadoes in Alabama, ranking the state third nationwide behind Texas (521) and neighbouring Mississippi (404).Fourth is Arkansas ( 336 ) and fifth is Tennessee with 271 fatalities.""

Wow--huh. I didn't mean to doubt your info but it just surprised me. Okay I guess the facts are the facts.

I still wouldn't base my decision to move there on that. I wonder what the rate of vehicle crash fatality is in any given city--that'd put the tornado figures in perspective I think...

Historically for the month of February TN rates #2 in tornadic activity. We have wild fluctuations in temperatures. (said as I look out at my bulbs that have sprouted!)

Cool How abouit Sgt Pepper

Doea anyone know how to send donations to those who lost everything in this last string of toradoes?

I just saw on FOX News the story of a Disabled and Decorated American Soldier named Sgt Pepper who lost his legs in combat and now his home.

I think someone in TN should post this query so others, especially Vets, can come to his aid.
