So, I thought maybe we should have a little discussion thread about Dollar Generals in Putnam County? I'll start us off.

I've heard that they're building finally a Dollar General in Silver Point, as I'm sure many were hoping for. I saw dirt work there too. Has anyone else heard about this? I say it's overdue.

Looks like it. A construction permit for $475k was issued for that site on behalf of JMB Investment out of Knoxville. JMB Investment has developed other Dollar Generals. This is definitely good news for western Putnam County. Being right off I-40 on the road to vacation home developments and marinas around Center Hill Lake should make this a popular location.

Also, was dad misinformed about something else he heard? Someone told him that they want one every 8 miles, but surely this can't be an absolute minimum? Mayfield has one but is only 5 miles from Baxter, and a single one in Buffalo Valley (which would be 6 miles from Silver Point) would make more sense than one each in Lancaster, Chestnut Mound and/or Gentry (which are all 8+ miles from their nearest).

I think it will be too. It's LONG overdue.

I now have absolute proof. Today, I saw the sign at the Silver Point construction site that says "Dollar General Coming Soon Now Hiring."
