Default Cumberland Cove

We have found quite a few homes in the Cumberland Cove development.
Is this a nice area? It sounds wonderful w/ hiking trails and rivers.

I hear there is a big spanish population there.
Yes,Monterey does have a high % of hispanics. This is due to employment at the Perdue chicken plant on the east side of the city along I-40.
I have two close friends who live in the city & they'll confirm that there's no problems with that at all. Most are all hard working & law abiding. The schools are great! They have a big ESL program that works.

Default Pictures of Monterey

JHubtin,

Thanks for sharing the great pictures. Monterey looks like a nice town. I will definitely visit Monterey in August.

Are you a resident of Monterey? What are your thoughts about the town? Do you see a lot of people moving there from out of state?

Thanks

what do you think about "ledges at wolf branch" about 15 mi N of monterery.
I found a nice piece of property there.
realtor said it was a 45min-1hr from work.
I drive 30 min now, and if the property and house are good, it would be worth another 30 min to drive.
IMHO

We built a house about 5 miles out of town off of Hanging Limb Hwy almost 2 years ago. We live in S. Florida. No plans on moving anytime soon as we have a business here that pays the bills. We love Monterey it is very small but has about anything you would need. In about 20min we can be in Cookeville or Crossville. My wife prefers Cookeville more stores to choose from and a lot more restaurants. I prefer going to Crossville when needed. Just seems to be a bit more relaxed and less traffic. I do hear about all them Florida people that are moving this way but have only seen a few myself. The locals are fine with the newcomers as long as they keep it the way they found it.
These are some of the nicest friendliest people you will ever meet.

Parts of the Ledges are very beautiful. But for me I just wasn't feeling it. I guess I'm just partial to our property. It seems to be a little to far out for me. And many of the lots I saw didn't have the views that I would have preferred. Just my opinion though. Also, though the subdivision has restrictions but I don't think any of the land along the road that leads to the Ledges does. If you know what I mean. It would be hard to decide what house pic to submit to The Blue Collar Comedy redneck yard contest.
Very nice people in them parts though. It was a Sunday morning when I drove down that road toward the Ledges. There was a little white Church on the right side of the road. A half dozen men or so waved to me as they looked to be taking a smoke break.

I go out the Hanging Limb Hwy all the time on my way to the Mennonite community at Muddy Pond. They have a wonderful bakery, and I love their general store. I also have quite a bit of furniture that I bought at Muddy Pond (pie safe, rocking chairs, porch swings).

I think Monterey is a little jewel that will be rediscovered. It was originally a little resort town with 8 or so hotels right around the train depot; wealthy people from Nashville would take the train up to Monterey in the summers. I think when the RR is refurbished and the bike path completed down the mountain between Monterey and Cookeville, more people will come to Monterey.

I got my porch swing from the general store in Muddy Pond. I'm not sure of the name of the lady, but she was soooo kind. They had only one porch swing left and I didn't have a way to take it home with me. She offered to store it for me for a few days until I could get back there--she wouldn't even let me pay for it until I came back to pick it up.

They also have the most comfortable rocking chairs there. Mast General Store here in Knoxville and over in NC sells the same chairs but at double the price.

I also enjoy getting a burger over at the bakery / restaurant down the road from the general store. They grind their own beef and bake their own buns, and all the tomatoes, onions, lettuce, etc., are also grown right there, at least in the summer.

Can you tell I like Muddy Pond??
