Moderator cut: broken links After a year of planning, we finally started buildng our new house in Putnam County 10 miles west of Cookeville. Throughout the process, we have made several changes in the house design which delayed us, but we are finally moving forward. These are day one pics, where we are using a tarp to map out the placement of the house.

Congratulations! You must be really excited. Since I will be building my retirement home in the Monterey area (Cumberland Cove) in 6 to 7 years, I would be interested in hearing about your building contractor. After your home is completed, please send me a private message to let me know the details and whether or not you would recommend the contractor.

My best wishes to you and your family!

Thank you Jguillot! We are indeed excited since this is the first house we have ever designed and built. It was very satisfying to see the ground unearthed and know that in the next several months, we will be able to see the progress on our new home.

Thx Skip-n-Bit. The biggest attraction for me, outside of the beautiful countryside, is all of the people that I have been lucky enough to meet along this journey. I can't believe how friendly everyone is. We have decided that you can't make a 20 minute appointment with anyone. Plan on at least an hour or two for even the simplest tasks, because people engage you in conversation like you've known them all of your life.

That's exactly why I moved here back in '87, I'm originally from South Jersey. Over the years that I've been here, I've lived in Putnam, Jackson and White (now) counties and couldn't pick a favorite if I had to.

We're moving to AR here shortly and the funny part is that it looks just like where we are living now, except that the land is ours out there and we're renting here.
