I don't live in Corpus Christi but I want to move there. I live on MD's coast, I grew up on NJ's coast both have hot and humid summers and cold and damp winters. I lived in Clovis, NM for 10 years near the TX border about 100 miles from Lubbock and Amarillo. There it was hot, windy and dry and cold, more windy and dry. I prefer hot to cold. I don't like scraping ice off my vehicle's windshield.

My wife and I spent 5 days in CC in late March a few years ago. We stayed at a motel on Corn Products road, chosen because it has an indoor/outdoor pool. We didn't see a lot of obese people, everyone we encountered was nice, friendly and courteous. I liked SPID the way it enables one to travel unimipeded by traffic lights. We went to the aquarium, the Lexington, the beaches near those sites, SPI, Calallen, Portland, Mathis, Sinton, Pernitas Point on Lake Corpus Christi, we drove around a great deal and did not see anything that impressed us negatively. I didn't see the bad roads and trash that are mentioned in some posts. I visit this forum regularly. I enjoy reading the posts and feel that, in a vicarious way, I know some of the regular posters. I visit the CallerTimes website, also. From what I see at that site CC is not the cultural desert or attraction vacuum some make it out to be.

I am not sure how some define progressive and to what limits they would take it. NYC is a progressive city, they restrict salt, transfats, the size of sugared drinks and soon the size of theater popcorn. Here in MD we have a progressive governing administration. They like to impose taxes because they know how to spend the money I earn better than I.

Corpus Christi. The name has a certain "magic" about it. There was one post on this forum that was videos of driving along I-37, SPID and the highway from Portland to Corpus Christi. The latter video had a caption that said the highway was named the "Remember Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway". I like that kind of sentiment and reverence. I want to live among Americans who posess that degree of patriotism. I recall an American immigrant, who escaped Europe during WWII, saying that though he wasn't born in America he was born an American. I was born in NJ but at times I feel I was born a Texan.

What a great thread this has turned out to be!

CC may not be the most glamorous or modern city in the U.S.; But it definitely has a certain feel and magic about it. Also, a lot of big things are about to happen for this city. Just wait.

Well, yes, the city is mediocre. There are other cities that attract the top talent. It is not very bad as well.

For a city of it's size, there is a lot to do for anybody regardless of your interests. Between sports, nightlife, water activities, fishing, hunting, and shopping there is a little bit of everything for everyone. Not every city this size can say that.

Nothing that I could say in regard to Corpus would back my argument in an objective or measurable manner. You shouldn't need justification to dismiss anything that I say; however on the other end of that, you shouldn't need justification to welcome what I have to say as valid, either, if it proves to be coherent and stands to reason.

coherent, reasonable Moderator cut: see note

You're supposed to be a misanthrope, remember? Moderator cut: see note

In general, anyone making an affirmative statement has the burden of proof. The only reason to make a statement is to try to convince others, i.e., an attempt to prove. On the other hand, If you want to call yourself "Jerk", I'm inclined to take you at your word.

C'mon admit it... if you left Corpus, you'd die of homesickness and heartbreak. Every time you tasted Gulf shrimp, the regret and remorse it restimulated would bring tears to your eyes. You'd post another thread in this forum titled ... "How could I have been so wrong?" Your new screen name would be "RepentantJerk".

by the way, I had some gulf shrimp after many years without it. I was very surprised at how miniature they were. This was at snoopys under the causeway. I didn't feel like I got my $$ worth.

What's up with that? I remember back when gulf shrimp required 3 bites to eat them and 6 of them was a meal. I recently ordered shrimp at Joe's Crab Shack and walked away still hungry. Definitely didn't get my money's worth.
