Well, to the Lady above me. I am very familiar with Corpus Christi, and I would say the people are very nice and down to earth. As for interracial dating, I think Corpus Christi is going to be the biggest city in Texas where you will feel welcome as interracial couple. Almost all the black people-though few in number , and most hispanic people are interracially maried to each other or to the whites. I don't support same sex marriage, but the city has a great tollerance for that too. So you can feel very comfortable being in an interracial marriage. You see a relatively diverse population. The waters may not compare to Alaska, but atleast you can go to the beach.
So move to Corpus and try to prove me wrong lol. I bet you , you will love it. I don't know but when I go there, I feel some sort of warmth welcome. Like I said the people are extremely friendly.

I think you mean smallest.
Houston, for example, is open to this as well, and is certainly bigger than my birthplace!

how can you possibly say that corpus christi is open to same sex marriage? i am a native and would say that the anti-gay catholic church is very alive and well there. many of city's catholics blindly follow the church's teachings as evidenced by the fair amt of bumpe stickers that say "i am a proud catholic". the people are warm, but it is not a free thinking oasis nor that socially liberal.

Since when? (Segregated neighborhoods in Houston). I lived there for many years. There are pockets or enclaves of ethnic neighborhoods; but segregated, No.

Im in the same boat and have had some of the same concerns as i, myself am a divorcee with two bi-racial daughters (AA/Caucasian) So have either of you moved to the CC area as of yet? If so how have things been in that area? I brought up the same questions regarding my diverse family on the houston forum and had an influx of racist comments with some even talking about burning crosses and putting KKK pics in my forum, needless to say, thats one of the main reasons Houston has been crossed off of my list for possible relocation, I was shocked to death and thoroughly appaled over it. Im not looking forward to any similar situations in CC nor have I encountered any racist people in the CC forum yet, which is a plus, but would like to know how things are for people similar to me in the CC area, thanks

CC or Houston both are not racist cities. CC is about 50% hispanic, 40% white, 6% black, and about 2% asian, and about 2% other. Houston is about 35% hispanic, 30% white, 30% black, and 3% asian, and about 2% other. Both cities are fairly diverse. Especially with both cities having international ports.

misswendyS I would also find it disgusting to come across such racist comments in an area I'd be moving to. I certainly understand your hesitation. I hope that CC is opening and welcoming. I'm Cauc and my husband Hispanic but we have numerous mixed friends. I'm looking forward to a more open minded community. Granted, it won't be like Chicago, where we lived for several years, but it has to be more open than East Texas, where we currently live. I'm crossing fingers I can get our current house sold so we can move to CC in a timely manner.

Finally something GOOD I have to say about Corpus! We have a pretty small black population however I don't find any racial problems here. In schools, it's the 'in' thing to do...date someone outside of your race.
My son in law is black and looks much like Shaq. I have a blast with him and one time when he was here to visit we decided to have a little fun and go walking through the mall arm in arm laughing and having fun. Not ONE person turned their head to look at us and nobody cared what color we were. I give Corpus HUGE kudos for that.
My gf lives further north in Texas near where the shuttle went down. She said she had a black man for a friend and her church kicked her out....a church she went to all of her life. Her parents about had a stroke too. She's mid 30's so isn't a kid who should be told what to do. To get back into their good graces, she lied and said she got rid of the black friend. I wonder what's going to happen when they find out she's going to marry him? She's already talking about moving back to Corpus (she spent a year here) so that they don't get the heck beat out of them. The KKK is alive and well up there.
