Does anybody live in or around Mathis, Texas. Just interested in finding more info about the Lake area.

My grandfather used to live there on the Lake. It's been quite a number of years since I've spent any time there, but I drove through a few years ago to see how things have changed. A lot of the roads around the Lake that used to be unpaved are now paved and there are more neighborhoods and developments there now, but it still has a pretty relaxed vibe. I never spent much time in town, but have relatives that live or lived there (they probably all passed by now). What are you wanting to know? My mother grew up in Sinton, and also spent much time at the Lake.

I'm thinking about taking a job in Corpus but I don't want to live there. I grew up in a town with a population of 800 and now live in a town with about 10,000. I don't think I would like to live in a larger city than I do now. I thought it would be cool to live on the lake, but I'm having trouble finding out a lot of info about Mathis and and the lake area. I will be going there in Feb to do some scouting but I justed wanted as much info as I could without dealing with a realtor, just yet.

The last time I visited the Lake, I was in Ingleside (right next to Corpus), and I think it took me about 45 minutes. My grandfather owned a marine/sporting goods store in Sinton and commuted from Mathis to Sinton and it may have been about 30 minutes. So, the rest of the way to corpus would make it about 45 minutes I think. Homes are still very attainable (not too expensive) there. It's primarily Hispanic there, but always has been as long as I can remember. This does not translate to rough or gang infested however. It's a small, laid back town. There are some resturaunts there. I don't know about Movie theatres or such, but if they aren't there, they'll be in sinton. There is a State Park on the Lake and camping available. Good fishing too. I remember it as a place where you knew your neighbors and interacted with them. White population is there as well, but in slightly fewer numbers. It's more Hispanic in town, more caucasian on the Lake, or it used to be.
