I think Padre Staples Mall is a great place to shop. Sure its not very fancy. But its nice and has everything anyone could ever need. You must be one of those people where anything under Oakley, Gucci, or Kalvin Klein doesn't cut it for you. Corpus is not a large city. I think the city has great shopping for under 300,000.
And you must have ultra low standards, which is fine. Nothing wrong with that. But "great shopping" and "Padre Staples Mall" aren't usually things you hear uttered in the same sentence. And actually, no. I dress like a homeless person most the time, sometimes go days without a shower & shop at Goodwill a lot.
I mean, I'm not gonna poo poo on anyone's taste. If you like it you like it. But I'm willing to bet most people that have been around wouldn't agree.

No Im not just stuck up and I dont think I am better than everyone else and need the best of everything just to show off. I am a normal middle class person. A typical American who appreciates everything they have and anything I get unlike people where its never enough. Believe it or not most people don't need places like La Cantera or the outlets in San Marcos to satisfy them.
i went into padre staples mall tonight and am excited that they FINALLY plan on doing something positive for it. KerryB unfortunately is absolutely correct about its current state. the restrooms are antiquated and scuzzy. the mall lighting is harsh and the decor very plain. i think that the mall went downhill when it started losing lubys cafeteria (central location), woolworths and a few others. when it opened in 1970, it was a big deal, but nothing has been done since to keep up with the times. as to the other poster who talked about all of the things to do. puh-leez. not everyone will like the symphony. how many times can you visit the lexington, asian museum, art museum?
and where is all of this great food that you're talking about?
a lard laden taqueria on every corner is not my idea of good food. no wonder so many have heart conditions in this town. just open up the yellow pages and see how many cardiologists there are here. corpus has a way to go before it can attract new ppl that will stay here for good.
One of many struggles any smaller city in the US faces. But if you look at the demographics, Corpus must be doing something right, because the growth rate has always been in the positive. And these last two or three years or so, the southside, northwest side, and Portland has exploded with growth.

Well, thats what I said. It doesn't take much to make you happy as far as shopping goes, so therefor you have low standards when it comes to that.
And so do I, for that matter. But thats us personally. I still know the difference between good shopping & terrible shopping. Making blanket statements like Padre Staples Mall "has everything anyone could ever need" isn't exactly correct. Thats all I was saying.

Did you not read my entire post? I mentioned at least a dozen good restaurants. If you need directions, you can find them online. As far as the Symphony and Art museum, I only listed those because KerryB said there was no culture in Corpus Christi. I was replying to her post that there's nothing to do here and that CC is somehow not a "real" city. I think I've proven here wrong several times over. Yet no one acknowledges that. They just avoid it and find one thing to pick to pieces (like the mall). I'm sorry if you or KerryB don't like Corpus. I'm not saying you have too. But don't make it out to be this horrible place with nothing to do because there are over 6 million tourist and 300,000 citizens that would disagree.

Apparently to KerryB, the only thing it takes to be a "real" city is having high end stores. Well guess what. Those stores will come as the city grows. Some of them already have plans to locate here. But I find it really sad that you don't realize there's more to it than that. A city shouldn't be determined by it's shopping or lack of shopping. I think some people have their priorities all wrong. As I've stated before. Corpus Christi has plenty of culture, entertainment, etc...especially for a city of only 300,000. I don't see how you can deny the facts or how anyone could say that CC is not a "real" city. Perhaps you're just one of those people that's never happy, no matter where you live. I hate to break it to you but there will always be something to complain about if you actively seek it out.
How about finding something better to do with your time than shopping? Address your family, college classes, volunteer, perhaps looking for a home in another city.

LOL. Yeah, that ol' Texas zinger. "If you dont like it you can gheeet out!" Good one!
LOL your entire post. Your post just proves my point. You obviously haven't looked hard enough.
Culture: CC Symphony Orchestra, CC Ballet, Art Museum, Asian Culture Museum, Art Center of CC, Texas Jazz Festival, 50-60% Hispanic population
Dining: In addition to most major chains we have tons of local restaurants. Mama Mia's, Cafe Aeby, HuDat, D' Lounge, Utopia, Yardarm, Dragonfly, Nuevo Cafe, Vietnam, Water Street, Thai Cottage, Katz 21 and tons of great Mexican food joints...just to name a few. I could easily go on.
Tourism: Are you kidding me (we're one of top destinations in the state...and Texas is a big state) Miles of beaches, watersports, Aquarium, Lexington, larger events like Buc Days, Bayfest, US Open Windsurfing and Kiteboarding event and Texas Jazz Festival (longest running FREE jazz fest in the country, 48 years)
Shopping: Padre Staples is about to be transformed into a lifestyle center with PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, Banana Republic, Bebe and other yet to be named tenants. Crosstown Commons lifestyle center with over 2 million square feet of retail to be built. Outlet mall in western Nueces county near Calallen/Robstown area already 70% leased. Lamar Park Center and tons of unique shopping on the island.
Sport/Entertainment/Leisure: Hooks Baseball and Whataburger Field (awesome venue), Sharks Football and American Bank Center (awesome venue), Big name concerts at American Bank Center and Concrete Street year 'round, Division I College sports at TAMU-CC, over 300 parks, Free concerts at Cole Park on every Thursday night, Free movies at Cole Park every Friday night, live music any night of the week at dozens of venues throughout the city.
Aside from having an amusement park and a waterpark I'd say Corpus Christi has a lot to do. I know larger cities have more options but you can't tell me there's really that much more to do in, say Dallas, Austin and SA that you can't do in CC.
And I'm sorry, but Whataburger is pretty awesome...for fast food. (Two words: Patty Melt)
These are just some of the things to do in CC. So unless you are a hermit or have a hobby that I've never heard off, I don't see how you can deny the fact that there are plenty of great things in Corpus Christi.
BTW.....You mentioned PF Changs etc...coming to Corpus...guess you didn't hear that the city shut down having that new mall. So none of those big name restaurants or stores will be coming here.
Not that "high end " places are essential, but it would have been nice.
I agree with the people on here that do not like CC and think it's disgusting. But, that is just my opinion. There is nothing wrong with the people that like it here. It's just not for me. Having lived in other area's of the country, I know there a lot of better places to live. I made the mistake of moving here and am now in the process of trying to change it.
No the city has not "shut down having the new mall". The developers are still in the construction planning stages.
