All I was saying is there is more to a small city than shopping and we have found everything, including upscale shopping in CC. If you don't live in CC any longer, perhaps you are no longer in tune to changes taking place here of which there are many in all aspects of living in CC. I no longer post about Eden Prairie, MN since I left there 8 months ago since I am no longer living there.

Wow. Me, too. Well actually I am more fond of Salvation Army than Goodwill, but I figured we would be a really great match with Corpus. But we only lasted a week. The folks I went down there to work with said they lose a lot of guys about 6 to 8 months in, but less than a week was a record.
They said usually the run-away was because the Mrs. would want the Symphony shopping, etc. But for us it was the schools. Never would have ever thought we were uptight, rigid or anything else. But school for the kids was/is something we take dead serious and that did not seem to be a match.
In all fairness there are a couple of top-end school options, but you have to have your ducks in a row well in advance. We had gotten a slot at the Charter school on the Island, but they were way too laid back for us.

Wrong. They were in the planing construction phase until the city shut it down. It's not going to happen. Funny that I ready in the news along with everyone I work with. But stopping progress and bring new business's is typical in CC from what I have heard from long time residents. See the below article from the local paper:
Crosstown Commons land deal is on hold
Prospective tenants wary of economy

CORPUS CHRISTI — Developers planning an outdoor mall won't close on the land this month, saying the land deal is on hold indefinitely until prospective tenants gain confidence in the economy.
Ryan Gaston with Hawkins Companies, one of the two developers involved in the project called Crosstown Commons, said they won't buy the land until tenants confirm they'll move in.
"We're still working on it," he said. "You have to have tenants to build a lifestyle center."
The project planned for 227 acres at Crosstown Expressway and Holly Road stirred community debate this summer with the developers request for tax incentives from the city, the first such request for retail development.
The City Council approved a deal in June granting up to $40 million in incentives based on how much of the project is built.
Gaston said retailers nationwide are reassessing their expansion plans, causing many of those interested in this project to wait.
"They like the project but right now they can't say, yes, we are going to Crosstown Commons," he said. "They're basically saying give us some time so we can work through what's going on with the economy."
He would not name any of those interested tenants.
In June, closing on the land appeared imminent and developers said quick action by the City Council would be crucial.
The closing has been delayed several times and was expected this month.

It is typical. They HATE progress of any kind. Dont forget the luxury resort they stopped from coming in on Padre Island recently, Sea World some years back, etc.

yes... I have heard all about those....also heard they stopped Toyota from coming here too. It's really sad because they have such huge possibilities for boosting the local economy and standard of living. I mean, the city is on the water, which means they could make this a huge tourist destination and retirement area. But it never will be if they continue to stop progress. And if they do nothing to clean up the city and the beaches.
I personally clean up after myself like any person should, but have you seen how dirty the beaches are ? Or the trash that blows around the city itself.
Taking a little pride where you live would be a great start.

That was the most frustrating thing, the possibilities. But all the locals I talked with mostly liked the idea of keeping the city the way it was. They'll vote to put corny things in like a bayfront amusement park, but not anything useful & things the city desperately needs. They make a good case for having to drive to San Antonio bi-weekly.
Some residents here will try & say the beaches are beautiful, natural, untouched, etc. Nothing's further from the truth (well, except maybe the untouched part. Untouched meaning unclean).
I never seen so much trash on a beach & never seen such disregard for keeping it clean by residents as I did here. They would drive onto it, set up shop for the day with tents, grill out, drink, etc (which is fine). But when they were gone, they leave their beer cans/trash behind. I cant tell you how many times I saw this. Countless (I lived right across the street from the beach on Whitecap). It got so bad that I would just pay the fee & go to the Mustang Island park just to get away from it. And the thing is, no one enforces it & no one bats an eye when it happens. I also saw a lot of trash being thrown from car windows too. Kinda sad really.

I can't tell you how many dirty diapers we see left on the beach. It is really gross. What a strange and dirty place CC is.

i know and what a dayum sad reputation those folks have created for our Texas shoreline. and sure yall can say some of it is to be blamed on visitors and not locals, but regardless, if CC really cared about attracting tourism, they would do something about it-take extra effort to clean up the shoreline.
how sad.
and ya know what? i have been to popular beaches in Southern California and it is MUCH more populated there, as yall all know, and they were cleaner than CC area beaches. heck, even the DOG BEACH in San Diego was cleaner!
what an embarrassment.
but then again, i am not surprised. i found the beaches were not the only thing that residents didnt have any respect for. i found the city to be very dirty overall.
i really was very disappointed, i was so excited about combining my love for Texas and love for the outdoors, and ocean./gulf waters etc, by moving there. but after one year of living down there, i couldnt get out fast enough.

One thing that will always stick out for me is when I was walking my dog on the public beach in Corpus. It was in the summer so it was crowded that day. My dog decided it was time to take a dump right in front of a group of about 20 people. Being a dummy, I left her baggies back in our sack on down the beach because she had already gone #2 just before that & I didnt think she would again.
Anyways, embarrassed I asked the people if they had anything I could use to scoop it up & they all, everyone of them, told me it was cool & to just leave it. They were more interested in my dog's name, petting her, etc. They were all very nice about it, but still. Thats kinda gross.
Thats pretty much the mindset I think of most the people there. "Just leave it".
BTW, there were children around, so I didnt think that was really cool & I made it a point to go get the baggies & come back to pick it up.
