Default Great family vacation in Port Aransas

My family just moved to Texas in March and this week we took our first Texas vacation. We were supposed to go to South Padre Island but one of the recent hurricanes damaged the condo we were supposed to rent, so we scrambled to find a replacement spot and some of our Austin friends suggested that they would meet us in Port Aransas.

So we have been here for the last few days and we had such a good time! We are accustomed to California and Pacific Northwest beaches and people kept warning us not to expect too much from Texas beaches but this beach is extremely family friendly and our young children had a fabulous time. The water is shallow for a good distance so there is lots of space for children to safely splash around. The beach was clean enough for lots of sand play. And the atmosphere was very family friendly...everyone was very nice.

We spent hours at the beach both in the morning and then again toward the evening. The weather was wonderful because it was warm but with a nice breeze as long as we didn't go out in the hottest part of the day. The sunsets in the evening were gorgeous.

We stayed at Coral Cay, nice condos a short walk from the water.

I don't know how this beach compares to other Texas beaches because I've never been to any other ones, but I think my children will always remember this beach vacation as a terrific time.

I couldn't help but notice your blog - Visit to Port Aransas. My family and I live in Austin and have been going to Port Aransas for many years. In fact, we love it so much we bought a condo on the island with a gorgeous view of the Gulf and go there whenever we can get away. Wonderful place to catch a breeze.

Port A beats South Padre any day. I've been to both but like Port A the best and go back there every year.

The EPA rates Rockport's beach (near Port A) as the cleanest in Texas. I like both beaches even the ones in Corpus aren't too bad.

Rockport has more men than women not sure more beach men than women so that might make a difference to some.
