Scubashawn,
Hi again and welcome to the area. I have a friend who lives in Brighton Village and she seems to like it fine. You'll have an easy commute to CCAD. I don't really know what else to tell you at this point. Feel free to post any questions. Also, I'll try to edit my profile and include an e-mail address and you can e-mail me if you want. Hope your moves goes well and you all like it here.

Oceanmom,
I'm not all that familiar with the communities around CC, but I'll give you my impressions of them--which may be all off. The first thing to know is that if you're working in Port Aransas but live anywhere but there or CC, you'll have to take the ferry into and out of PA every day. If you're working 8 to 5, you could have a long wait in the summer, especially late in the afternoon. You should ask your potential employer about that.
PA is charming with a real beach town feel to it and has some great restaurants, but real estate has gotten very, very expensive lately.
Aransas Pass and Ingleside have more of a working class feel to them, with people employed in commercial fishing and doing ship yard work. There is a big Navy base in Ingleside that is scheduled for closure, which possibly will totally wreck the economy, although I suppose it could result in some housing bargains for you. There is also a little community called Ingleside on the Bay, which I believe is a separate entity. I know someone with a vacation home there, but don't know much else about it.
Rockport is an artsy retirement community--very pretty. I'm not sure about real estate values.
I'm unfamiliar with the school districts, other than that they are all small.
Your best bet would be to spend a couple of days in the area driving around and looking at places. They are close enough together that it's very doable.
Hope this has been somewhat helpful. If you have any more specific questions, I'll try to answer them.

Gypsy-Moth,
From the middle of July through the middle of September it's very hot and humid--usually in the mid- to high-90's and peaking in the 100's. Winters are short and mild--usually lasting from January through mid-February. It's rare for it to freeze here and even rarer for it to snow, although it did snow on Christmas eve in 2005--what most people around here consider a miracle. March and April are usually beautiful, as are the end of September and October.
We've had plenty of rain the last few years, but some years are so dry that we have mandatory rationing of water-which mostly means you can only water your lawn and plants a couple of days a week.
Hurricanes are unpredictable. The last really destructive hurricane to hit CC was Hurricane Celia in 1970. Most people think the odds are good that we'll be hit again soon. That's worth remembering if you end up looking for a house here because some neighborhoods are more prone to flooding than others. Personally, I would never live on Padre Island because it is a barrier island and will take the full brunt of a hurricane. But lots of other people live there and love it. To each her own.

Marlow, thanks for the climate info. Have been through water rationing in California, so I'm used to gardening with drought resistant plants.
Corpus and Rockport sound good to me. I agree with you on not wanting to live on a barrier island. I'll be coming for a visit when I get closer to retirement.
Thanks again!

Thanks again...I will stay in contact with you. It's always nice to have someone to ask question of when moving to a new area.

Hi Marlow:
I am a Chineses student who are going to study in the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christ in the next January. I am sure that everything in the CC is new and excited to me. Now I am trouble in sorting out my luggage for I do not know whether I need to take so many winter clothes to there. Also I want to know someting about the price level in CC. Thank you for your consideration and I hope you can give me a great help.
Best wishes

Hi and welcome to Corpus Christi! First, you won't need many winter clothes here. A cold day is about 40 degrees farenheit, but it doesn't stay cold for long. It sometimes gets as cold as 30 degrees, but not very often. You only need to bring a couple of sweaters and a jacket.
I'm not sure about apartment rental prices, but I'm going to guess that you could rent a small apartment near the university for $400 to $600 per month. There may be someone reading this who has a better idea than I do. You could also look at the newspaper online. It's the Corpus Christi Caller Times and they will have advertisements for apartments. Prices of other things here are about the same as they are in other parts of the United States. There is a bus that runs down Alameda street and goes to the university. If you get an apartment close to Alameda street you will have access by bus to the university and to grocery stores. There are probably other buses that go there as well. The bus is free for university students.
I think that there is a small population of Chinese students at TAMUCC, but I don't know how you would get in touch with them. There may be a link on the TAMUCC website.
Good luck to you. If you have any more questions I will try to answer them.

my husband and i lived in texas for two and a half years (some in inglesides, some in rockport.) HATED texas, but here are three good things about the area:
**nuevo cafe in corpus--roasted poblano soup. unfortunately, the recipe is a secret.
**croakers near rockport--best burgers i have ever tasted! seriously, if i ever have to go back to texas, houston is the most likely place, and i would drive the three hours to get a burger from croakers. before you go there, though, call to see if they are open--it seems the owners run it like a hobby, open at their convenience.
**texas music, radio station 94.7--fortunately, they are online, so i don't have to go back to hear some good music!
hope you have a better time than we did!
