When I lived in Corpus in the 1970s and 1980s, there were quite a few movie theaters to go to. Now, there are a whopping total of 2 movie theaters and 1 second ran discount theater. Up until recenlty, all theaters were run by cinemark. Why isn't there more competition in Corpus? The theaters are always crowded when I go. The lack of competition couldn't be for lack of prospective business.

It's puzzling. You'd think with the suburbs in the west and northwest, plus Portland and Ingleside, and with the great SPID development that there'd be more screens and more choices. It is rather odd. I'm sure when Crosstown is extended even further south that when more new things get put in, the theaters usually would be part of that.

Well, i understand what you say about 49 screens. Only 2 of those are in corpus christi proper, one on the westside and one on the southside. each of them are quite nasty (dirty) and plainjane compared to the theaters in larger cities. it's like the owners KNOW that they are the ONLY game in town and do NOTHING to enhance the moviegoing experience. the city needs more options, imo.

Yeah, the Mega Theater is pretty cool. And I'm sure its the only Large format theater aboard an aircraft carrier.
