Ah..proximity to the beach..just remember that the beach here is the Gulf, not the ocean.
If you like St. Pete beach then Port A is very similar.

I hale from Pompano Beach..many moons ago

Corpus Christi is great. You're going to love it. There are quite a few older duplexes and townhomes that are cool in the Lamar Park area (Doddridge and Alameda) It's close to the water and somewhat affordable. That's if you prefer the eclectic and unique as opposed to the cookie cutter stuff you find on the south side of the city. There are also some affordable apartments on the island or on North Beach just north of downtown over the Harbor Bridge. North Beach is a man-made but still pretty cool. It's a little run down but on a come back.

Good luck and hope you enjoy CC as much as I do.

Default Re Corpus Christi from Ft. Lauderdale

Looking to rent an apartment under $800, 2 or 3 BR. I hear the south side is nicer?? Also, how are the schools? Does anyone have an actual account of what the weather is like? I've read some places that it is ridiculously hot in the summer (but so is florida), and I've also seen pictures of snow in the winter....

Help!!
We just moved here and I am from Naples, Florida!! I think it is a lot cooler here because there seems to always be a constant breeze. As far as cost of living, to my knowledge, it is a lot more inexpensive in rent, but as a buyer, the property taxes are ridiculous!!! Grocery bills are more expensive as well, although, I tend to buy organic regardless. Beaches are nothing compared to Florida, but I think you can appreciate a coast no matter where you are if you are that type of person. South Padre Island is different in comparison to Florida, but very, very nice.... for Texas. And... PEOPLE HERE ARE THE NICEST I HAVE EVER MET, and I'm a world traveler.

That is so true about the people. They are so nice. Wow, Florida's beaches must be gorgeous, because I know how pretty Corpus' are. That breeze will get to a person after a while. I remember that. ha!

I know if it weren't for a good breeze in the summer here in Wichita Falls, it would be absolutely unbearable here. At least the breeze keeps the air moving, despite the 100 degree + air that is being moved!

I know when I move to Corpus in the latter part of March, that I will be thankful for that ever-present breeze. It really does help, especially when a large part of your job is outdoors.

You are absolutely right, the breeze makes the temps easier to take.

I asked this in another post but I'll try here also. Does 1000-1100 a month rent a decent 3 bedroom somewhat close to the beach or do I need to come up with more money or move more inland? And for any who have first hand knowledge how does CC rate in your opinion next to San Diego?

Default CC vs SD

Not even on the same planet. The vibe and the geography is way different not to mention the whole CA cost of living thing. Both are wonderful places but life in SD for the 'middle-class' is a lot harder than in CC. If you win the lottery - then most definitely pick SD!
