The best part of Boat and Net is the ordering tube at the one on Weber and Staples.

If you liked that, next time try Pete's Chicken and More. If you're needing a quick fix of fried food, it's pretty great. I haven't actually been to one in several years, but it used to be one of my guilty pleasures.

Good Question. I think that the extension of the expressway was a horrible idea. Driving the surface streets through flour bluff was really kinda neat. I only remember Benjamins, the Dairy Queen that was on the right side at the end of town on the way back from Padre Island next to a 25 cent car wash back in the 70s. The root beer tasted unlike any other root beer that I had ever tasted.

Hi,
My grandfather R.D. Shepard started the restaurant chain in Corpus Christi called Shep's Little Chicken Shack (The Chicken Shack). My dad owned the one in Portland. I remember growing up eating there all the time. My dads brothers Dale and Lee were also partners. There's one on Up River road that opened up years after We closed them down. This one was even in the same building that one of ours had been in. Later we found out that it was opened by one of the old managers from the main Chicken Shack on Leopard. We were told it tasted just like ours. The recipe was a secret and very few ever knew it, he was a manager for a long time so he knew it. My grandfather had the business over 50 years. Originally it was called Robin Hood Cafeteria at 6 points. At one time they had 7 Shep's Chicken Shacks, including one in Kingsville, outside NASA near Houston, Texas City, Portland, and Anniville. There was one on Holly rd and Everheart, one by Parkdale Plaza, and one in front of the Padre Staples Mall.
I remember eating at Luciano's and Old Mexico, they were my favorites back in the 1970's. And Der Weinerschnitzel hot dogs. I remember going to the Ayers theater until the Cine 6 opened behind the Mall. And I wish the family wouldn't have closed all their Chicken Shacks. I loved their home made Onion rings but I sure hated pealing and cutting them when I had to work there as a kid. lol

I worked as a cocktail waitress briefly at the Sand and Sea. The Zodiac Lounge and Electric Eel are what I was looking for plus any old memories. I haven't been home for a visit since 2006. I grew up in Robstown but after 19 it was CC. With my parents moving to the Wash DC area I did a lot of living between places. My heart is made of Padre sand. How about Chat n Chew and their little table juke boxes?

No they moved to Arizona, where he opened up his own place. it's been a few years since he passed awy. Their 3 daughters live in the Phoenix area

In front of Padre Staples Mall? Are you sure about that? I remember that it was near intersection of Airline & SPID, closer to Sunrise Mall than P-S. There is a Wendy's there now.
